    thanks mr.BrokRench,

i'll try the vacumm on it. but yeah i might be forced to buy a new set most likely, coz i tried to spin the fan manually & found out it's still pretty much mobile!(so i think, it might be busted up electrically)rather than it just being stuck by dust & dirt!bummer!

    thanks again,
    chris
p.s. even when i'm using AC power it's still has the same problem:(

Hello Chris....i highly recommend you dont "pry" on anything and it have it serviced by a qualified tech. The vaio incorporates the heatsink and fan as a unit, It's a 2 wire fan that is temp. controled from 5v and up. You can take a vacuum and place at the ventilation opening and remove some of the dirt & dust that has accumulated inside, this will help. The cost is around 100 buxs for a new fan & sink...Sony part # 1-763-483-12. Attached is a pic of the unit..; Also note: a depleted battery will effect fan operation as well.
Hope this helps and will fixya up....

Sony vaio pcg-71318L overheating

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

Sony Vaio K33; the fan seems to run all of the time, hot and nois

i had the same problem with my vaio.

when disassembling the notebook: after you remove the metal cover under the keyboard, you'll see three areas covered with black thermal tape. peel back the thermal tape and you should see tightly packed dust buildups in those areas. use a q-tip and vacuum if you can or air duster. be sure to clean the fans as well as the heatsink assembly.

once that is done, your noise level should be reduced by about 60-70%.

if you're still running hot, consider cleaning the old thermal grease off your processor and reapplying a new layer.

Hi axal49,

I seem to understand your problem. I have a Sony VAIO laptop and I might know how.... do you have VAIO Recovery Center on your PC? If you do then go to recovery center and find Reinstall Programs or Drivers.

If not then click here:
