Refrigerator not cooling

A common problem is the plastic sliding baffe / air diffuser breaks in the closed position or, the freezer side of the vent is blocked with ice.
Have a look on utube for air baffle / diffuser fix.

Ty for providing that information Ok first thing click this link http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_png/PLDM/R0803003-00002.png part number 10 in the rear of your freezer you would remove by removeing the screws holding the panel. After you remove this panel this gives you access to the evaporator coil. You would be checking if there is any ice build up on the evaporator coil if there were this is termed as a defrost issue. If you see any ice build up in this area message me back and I will instruct you how to diagnose which part is causeing the fault makeing your unit have a defrost issue if you do have ice build up. Now next step, seeing how now you have assured you have no ice build up on the evaporator coil and also while doing that you also assured the evaporator fan located above the coil is spining as well, click this link http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Frigidaire-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-FRT18S6AWU/1428/0166000/R0803003/00003?blt=06&prst=0&shdMod=FRT18S6AWU part number 13 is termed as a diffuser which is actually aka a damper door this doors purpose is to basicly open and close depending on how cold the refrigerator is this door is located in the ceiling of your refrigerator. Inspect this door assure that it is not covered in ice or frost and it does open and close easily as well not to easily though there is a small spring that should add tension on the door to keep it closed when needed. If you find that the door is working properly you are left with one and only one piece that is the control for the diffuser door which is located under the knob that you turn for your refrigerator to get colder or warmer. Note if you do have frost up on the diffuser door it is best to just replace the diffuser itself. part number 21 in the diagram is the tempreture control for the refrigerator section. If you have any questions message me back. Please also remember when our chat has concluded to rate how this opinion has helped. Side by side freezer is working but the refrigerator is not

The freezer is the only section that actually produces cold in a refrigerator. If you open the freezer door can you hear a fan running blowing the air around inside the freezer? This fan is located behind the rear panel on the inside rear wall of the freezer. If you cannot hear the fan running it is either not working or has a defrost issue which is when you remove the rear panel to check the evaporator fan motor you would see the evaporator coil. If the coil had any build up of ice on it this would have to be defrosted with a hair dryer and message me back if you find this and I will tell you how to test the defrost thermostat, the defrost heater, or the defrost timer or adaptive control in some units. Following that you assure that the fan is working you would then go to the rear upper small door located inside your refrigerator and check the diffuser which is the small door that opens and closes letting the cold air inside of the refrigerator. There is also a thermostat control in the ceiling of the refrigerator that controls this door as well. You would first remove the diffuser and assure there is no ice build up and that the small door does open and close if it does not then replace the diffuser. If you have any further questions message me back. Please also remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation it allows me to continue helping others in similar situations in the future Thanks

I have a 1 1/2 year old whilepool gold refrigerator model GS5VHAXW. In the upper left rear there is a box...I think it is some kind of damper. There is a continous popping or knocking sound and the fridge...

You are correct this box that is in the upper left corner of the fridgerator towards the rear of the machine is actually termed as a diffuser. Its basic job is to open and close letting the cold air into the refrigerator from the freezer. When you fridgerator is to cold the diffuser, also known as the damper assembly in other units, closes and when the frigerator is to warm it opens the small fins on the door letting the cold air back into the refrigerator side of the unit. There is also a control for this diffuser located in the ceiling of your fridgerator as well. Around this time of year do to the tempreture getting hot outside I do notice more diffuser's that I have to change in a week more then diffuser controls. Is this the area that is makeing that poping sound on you? Carefully remove the diffuser not breaking either of the two thermostat lines and inspect to see if you have an ice build on the inner fins of the diffuser if you do it is best to replace the diffuser itself instead of opening it or proping something on the inside of it to keep it open. If you have any further questions message me back. And please also remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation it allows me to continue helping others in similar situations in the future Thanks
Rick
p.s the part number for the diffuser is W10128734

The fridge side by side is not working. but freezer is working. Help

Dear espa8,

I'm sorry to hear that the lights in your Sub-zero unit are not working. It is unlikely that all the bulbs went out at the same time. You most likely have a bad light switch. If you open the refrigerator door & look upwards you will see two white switches. The switch on the left controls the lights. The part number to this light switch is 7014646. We can supply you with light switch replacement instructions if you contact us directly. Make sure that you turn the unit off at the circuit breaker before changing the light switch.

If you do need to replace bad bulbs, you will want to first remove the light diffuser. This is the plastic cover that the lights shine through. To remove the diffuser, first pull the clips located on either side of the rear of the diffuser to a down position. This should free up the back of the diffuser, allowing it to swing down and be removed. The bulbs are a narrow 40W appliance bulb found at most home improvement stores.

Whirlpool air diffuser not working in Kenmore

I replaced two of the diffusers before I realized the source of this issue.
Too much frost builds up on the back of the freezer and air flow is restricted. My solution - run in test mode the defrost cycle.
This issue only occurs for me when the humidity is high and I choose not to run the AC in my house.

No air coming from air diffuser assembly in fridge

through other postings on your web site I was able to determine that the return air flow vents for the refrigerator (diffuser air) was blocked due to frost. I defrosted the unit and it is working fine now.
