AVR-589 Denon Receiver Keeps Shutting Off

I have a AVR 589 Denon receiver. Similar to other posts, the system shuts off after 30 seconds or so. It flashes at 0.5 second interverals (per the manual). It is not overheated. And, I checked all the connections and they seem fine (not touching each other or back of unit). Any have any helpful suggestions?

    Thanks very much.
But, unfortunately it did not work.
I had the equipment professionally installed - but just to your suggestion, I unplugged the system and then reconnected every speaker wire plug to ensure no wire was exposed, or touching etc.  I can't see any wire.   I replugged it back in and it lasted about 1 minute before it shut off again.
    Anyone have any other suggestions?

October 2008 - so brand new.  I actually just sent it back to Denon for warranty repair.  They tried to troubleshoot it with me on the phone, including doing a reset to factory settings, and still no luck.  thanks

I have an Denon AVR-589 and it is showing (analog) but I need to change it to Digital and do not know how.

RTFM. Your external digital sources are responsible for delivering the digital content. They probably have manuals, too.

Register and download the manual for free at retrevo.com

This is a site where you can download a manual. I'm not familiar with Denen however, you should be able to go out of satellite receiver(HDMI) to your receiver input(tv/sat) then to your HDMI input on tv. Your receiver might show video and sound through another port of receivers options, ie; video 1, video 2, etc. Check all putput options for your picture and sound. Hope this helps.

My subwoofer is connected correctly (test mode it works fine). The Denon 589 receiver, however, when everything is set up and ready to go, doesnt seem to send any output to it, so there is no base sound. ...

What's the make and model of the subwoofer? It sounds like it's a passive (unpowered) speaker.

See page 9

I seriously doubt your test mode worked fine on the subwoofer level adjustmnent.

Get a powered (active) sub.

No picture with cable to denon AVR-589

Long and painful answer!!! However, in the end, you need to bypass HDMI thru your receiver and go direct to the TV. Connect Digital Coaxial or Optical for audio to your receiver. Your version of HDMI in your receiver is not compatable with today's HDMI version. Yours is 1.1a and the current version is 1.3b going to 1.4. If you want detailed info as to "why", just google "HDMI 1.1 problems" you can read for hours! Sorry for the bad news! However, it is what it is. Hope this helps. If you need further help with setup, post a comment and I can give you further help.

Protection circuit activating. Possibly a shorted amplifier channel or power supply fault. Take it to a Denon repairer

Connection problem with HDMI cables on Denon AVR-589

Hello,
I want to clairify you install, you sat you have I an HDMI cable running from the Time Warner Cable box to the AVR-589, going in to the TV/CBL input. From the Denon AVR-589, I have an HDMI cable running from the output to my Toshiba RV525U television.

Check the connection at the TV, if as you indicated above you have an HDMI cable from the HDMI out from the Denon to an HDMI output on the TV, if this is the case you need to have that HDMI cable plugged into an input on the TV not an output

Shuts off after only a couple of sec.

Your reviever is "clipping". You need electronics service from a professional repair shop.

If you are savy in the world of electronics... Most likely you have a bad cap or preamp circuits that are overdriving the amp supply.
