The piece that is stapled to the coil cover its about 10 in. long and flame retardant its a piece of fabric or cloth insulation but it broke loose on one side and got a little to close to the coil. Where do you find this piece and does it sound like the problem

That piece you are thinking of is a flame retardant but is not the problem. To me it sounds like you have a plugged vent cheak outside when your dryer is running and cheak the air flow If not you may have a dead short on the element your element may be shorting on the housing.

Ge gas dryer heats but doesnt dry

if the flame is lighting you have lint blocking the air flow either in the dryer or in the vent line, also if you have a flame for the first 10 to 20 minutes and then the flame doesn't light you have bad gas coils located on top of the gas valve, when the coils are bad they can work for the first 10 to 20 minutes until the coils get hot and then they fail and you'll see the ignitor glowing orange but no flame, bad gas coils.then when the coils cool down they can work again.hope this can try removing the vent line from the back of the dryer and see if the flame stays on,if lint is blocking the air from blowing out the flame won't stay lit long enough to dry the clothes.

I have a gas dryer and cloths come out wet

Does the dryer get hot? If so check dryer vent.
If it is cold check the gas supply. Next open the lower cover and look to see a red glowing from the ignitor when running. It it comes on and no flame then you probably have a bad gas solenoid. If there is no red glow then it is probably the ignitor.

Hope that helps

change the gas coils on the gas valve by removing the 2 screws holding the bracket for the coils, remove the wire harnesses to each coil, dont worry one coil has 2 wires the other has 3 so quite hard to reverse

Dryer goes on, flame comes on but goes out soon, moisture accumulates on the door, clothes remain wet and very slow drying.

Hello Sam,
What the most likely problem is,is weak gas valve coils, when teh coils are weak the flame comes on when they are cool but once the gas valve coils get warm the quit working. It is a fairly common problem,so common in fact i have written this tip covering weak gas valve coils

Lgq9858pw dryer. Clothes would come out damp and cold. I replaced 2 thermostats (?) in the rear of the unit, located on the heat shield. The clothes now come out warm, not hot, but still damp. Any ideas?

if you popped the high limit thermostat that usuallt pops when the dryer needs to be cleaned out.pull out the lint filter, unplug the dryer, remove the two phillips screws in front of the filter,go in the back, remove the vent line remove the back panel and remove the duct that the lint filter slides into and clean it out,if you can't remove the duct push it to the right and vac out the blower wheel and pull the duct out towards you so you can get the vac into the duct to clean it,also if you have a brush you can brush all the lint down to the bottom and vac it up.if the vent line is a long run to the outside i use a leaf blower to blow out the vent line,go outside first and make sure the vent is clear so the lint will blow or both of these sound like it's blocked with lint or you can also have bad gas coils.the coils work for the first 15 to 30 minutes and stop working when they heat up.after they cool down they will work again until they get can start the dryer, pull off the plastic cover on the left side so you can see the flame ignite, watch the flame lite, after 15 to 30 minutes go back and look into the hole,if the flame isn't liting you know the coils are failing.easy fix, unplug the dryer, the coils are on top of the gas valve, remove the two pillips screws, remove the cover and replace the coils, part number 279834 and they are around 20 dollars, you get both coils instead of getting them should clean the dryer once every year so the dryer runs like it should, clothes drying on time, your parts will last longer and you don't have to worry about any lint fires

The gas drier takes 2 or 3 times to dry everything works fine but wont get real hot

there should be a an opening on the front panel or a piece of plastic that you can pop off to see the ignitor.start the dryer and while your clothes are drying after around 20 to 30 minutes look in the hole and see if the flame is lighting or is the ignitor just glowing and then it goes out without the flame lighting.if this is what's happening and sounds like it is you have bad gas coils.they will work until they heat up and then they fail, when they cool down they will work again for like 20 minutes and then shut down again.this is an easy fix, just take out the two phillips screws that hold the coils down on top of the gas valve, remove the cover and change out the coils.let me know what you find

Dryer doesn't dry (flame cuts out)

279834 is the part number for the 2 coils ( kit ) which mount on the burner . Only 2 screws hold the coil retainer . One coil is opening ( shorting ) after it gets warm . Replaceing both will solve the problem . Easily replaceable .
