Install Windows XP

Hi I have a big problem installing Windows XP on my Sony Vaio VGN-AR150G. This laptop have a raid controller and only one disk installed. I have the driver from the official sony site and I install the OEM driver before the install whit the F6 option and when it goes to Setup it says that I don`t have hard disk. I try everything and whit no luck. By the way in bios you can`t change anything except time, date and boot order. A friend of mine sad that a Gygabite notebooks have a special options in the bios wich you can unloack by pressing some keys together, do you lnow if sony have something like that or I need to opened and do something. I just dont want to have 40-50 trial software installed when my windows starts for first time and to busy right know to clean everething.

Thank you in advance

Re: Install Windows XP

Hmm... Usually the procedure that you are trying, where you install the SATA RAID controller at the F6 prompt is correct, it just sounds like you are not using the correct driver, (otherwise this would work) This utility creates the driver disk for you to use at the F6 prompt in the windows install

Often on this kind of system, there is a hidden recovery partition, which is usually activated by F10 or F11 on boot.

Either that or they use a recovery Disk set Reinstall windows (rather than a generic Win XP CD (this loads the correct drivers and default software as part of the automated recovery process)

I want to disable sata mode on my sony vaio vgn-fs742/w, please help because i cant reinstall xp on the system and the lan and wireless in not working when i install windows 7 on it.

The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

I can't boot up the Vista install on a Sony Vaio VGN-NR160E

go to your BIOS Setup, see to it that there is a Hard Disk Boot Priority, maybe you didn't put it there.

How I can get recovery disc for my laptop Sony Vaio VGN-SR 26GL?

You probably need a recovery disk because you dont have the necessary drivers and the software that came pre-installed on your laptop. but instead of worrying about that, why not just get any operating system disk of your choice, install it, download the drivers for your laptop online and install them too, and interestingly you can also keep all the drivers you downloaded with the OS Disk incase of future necessity for your laptop repairs.
In case your decide to do this, the link to download the drivers for your laptop is :
