In most cases, it's not the belt. It will either be a drum bearing or a tensioner pulley gone bad. If it is the drum bearing at the rear of the drum, it may be cutting into the mounting brace so I would not delay in having it looked at. A belt usually does not squeel constantly unless the load is fairly heavy. You may want to go and price a new dryer as in alot of cases, a new one is cheaper than repairing the old one. Do that before you call a repairman. Ask what the services call charges are. This will help in you decision.

    Good Luck

More than likely it is the belt. A simple fix is to spray some belt dressing on the belt. However, changing the belt would be the best solution. Good luck.

The dryer has a loud, high pitched squeek

Hello Robin, thank you for your post!
From the information you have provided your Frigidaire dryer is making a loud high pitched squeaking noise. This noise could be coming from your belt, motor, or spider arm. In order to find out which component might need to be replaced you would need to disassemble the dryer. We would recommend having a professional technician out to perform a proper repair. Improper disassembly of the dryer could result in personal injury or a problem with the dryer later in its life cycle. I hope that this information is helpful to you. -Matt

Dryer making a high pitched squeek, I took apart

I normally don't work on gas dryers but it sounds like the drum rollers are in need of lubrication. Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots or wear on them replace them. If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem. I will include these two websites for parts and further help: http://www.partselect.com/ http://www.appliancepartspros.com/index.aspx Both also have chat assistance 24/7. My dryer is making a high pitch squeeking noise but it still dries.

You likely have an idler wheel that is dry. The idler wheels are what supports the drum and allows it to turn freely. There may also be a belt tension problem. If the belt is too lose, it can slip on the motor, causing a squeal as well. First thing to do is pull the housing off, and see exactly where sound is coming from.
