SOURCE: Rinnai Econoheat 850 gas heater

Hi Daryl,

It needs a service. The jets carbon up and when they heat up they stop the gas getting through. If you take it to a Gas Shop they will charge you around 90-00 to service it and all they will do is blow it out with compressed air. If you can get hold of an Air Compressor with an Air Blower on the end you can blow it out yourself. Remove the Gas Hose from the back and place the Air Blower into the hole where the gas goes through and hold down the ignitor switch to open up the jets. Give it a good blow out. Once you have done that give the candles a blow as they eget dirty also. You will see a white dust more than likely come out of them. If you want to give it a good clean out remove the cowling and clean (blow out) the inside of the Heater. The cowling from memory has only about 6 or 8 screws holding it on. That should take the top and sides off. I can't remember if you can remove the lower vent on that model - if so it will only be either 2 or 4 screws. Hope this Helps.

Regards
Bryan

SOURCE: Rinnai 2001 Gas Heater - turn off

If, like me you have a Rinnai **** heater, with a PCB Assembly, then thats what the problem is. Look at around $500+ installation. These PCB's are not repairable. For $500, I am going to trash this heater and get something from a company that does not want to screw me after I have trusted them to live up to their "REPUTATION". Do not support companies that do not support their customers!

SOURCE: My Rinnai Spectrum 28 Gas

Most of these brands of heaters do not last more than 300 hours. if found to be operating fine most of the time I have found faulty gas regulators attached to the feed line to the valve causing the shutdown.

SOURCE: My Rinnai Spectrum 28 Gas

Other than a dust issue (clogged filter)., there are several things that could cause the unit to automatically shut OFF.

  • It's reached the temperature you have it set for and it automatically cycles to OFF.
  • The unit is overheating and the heater's overload switch is shutting it OFF.
  • The Flue may be clogged or partially clogged.
  • The flame failure device is faulty and needs to be cleaned or replaced
  • Low gas pressure.
In case you have misplaced your Owners Manual, I have included a link to it, that you can download and print for future reference. The manual should help you to continue to troubleshoot the problem.

Hope this helped to solve the problem.

Clicking noise Rinnai Avenger Gas heater

Is sounds like it could be the automatic ignition. If the sound only happens when you are pressing or turning the knob, I would say that is all that it is. Most gas heaters have an ignition switch under the knob. This triggers the ignition to try and spark. light the gas when the knob is depressed.

Extremely annoying humming sound coming from our rinnai RCE-318H gas heater. sounds like a bearing or wheel spinning noise. please help?

The humming you hear is from the gas pressure or lack there of. Check the inline gas shut off valve, to make sure it's fully open. If that checks out OK, turn the unit OFF completely and wait five minutes, before turning everything back ON and relighting the heater. If the noise is still there, contact your Rinnai dealer for a service call.

I hope this helped you, Arthur. Thanks for choosing FixYa. Cheers!

The hot water shuts down for a few minuts then

your unit is undersized or you do not have enough gas supply to run the unit properly.
If you have to many water features running or you have to many gas items turn on at the same time it can cause problems.

Its of automaticly after few minutes

Ok, so you have no heat. Make sure all shutoffs are on to the gas. There is one on the heater located on the right side under a little hinged door. Therer may be one outside at the tank or gas meter. Lets make sure we are getting gas. The Rinnai should make a few loud clicks when the gas valve opens. Are you hearing these?
