Your diagnosis is likely correct and yes, you can save the data by a process known as TOC cloning.

Depending upon the make and model of your MD recorder(s) you may have to obtain a TOC-cloning friendly model, but every single piece of MD equipment I own has come for free via FreeCycle or Gumtree so you shouldn't have any problems in that respect. If you need one in a hurry then they're usually dirt-cheap on ebay.

I don't wish to plagiarise, nor is there any point in re-inventing the wheel, so if you click here you'll see detailed instructions.

Good luck. Sorry for the long delay in posting an answer,I have only returned to FixYa last week after a long absence and this section isn't often monitored by others as questions are rare now that it's obsolete technology.

Hi,

According to you You don't have use your disk play for a huge time, so that it may damaged or lens became dirty.

You can clear the lens with lens cleaner (clear the optical head).

check the battery was properly charged or working.

Check the disk moved properly.

To prevent the disk erase or damage slide the accidental erase prevention tab.

You can show it to the Technician.

Problem with Finalizing Disc

When you insert the disc what does the recorder display after it examines it (Reading TOC)? - CDR, TOC, CDR-W, NO TOC?

It should know the disc is not finalized and let you either record more on it or finalize it.

If not, and you need to recover the 4 tracks try loading the disc on a DVD player. My old Pioneer will read unfinalized CDR-A's so I can digitally copy what's on them back to another CDR-A.

My dvd player won't read copied dvd movies but willl read store bought dvd movies in the device manage is says "unable to recover TOC error 0x13570001

one answer is to format the movies after you record them on dvd player. They would then be more likely to be read by the pioneer dvr.

Sony mdm-x4 when I load a disc it shows me blank disc, before that TOC reading. how can I get my record back?

You cannot remove power from a minidisc player after you are done recording as it updates the TOC when you power down. If you had switch set to timer "REC" and power up the unit it should update the TOC, otherwise all is lost.

Table of Contents TOC 4 appears with heading numbers in bold which I don't want. TOC 1, TOC 2, TOC 3 & TOC 5 are all okay

You can easily modify the formatting for a TOC. You will need to replace the current TOC - I'm assuming you are using the built-in reference to create your TOC.

Select Insert / Reference / Index and Tables. Click on the "Table of Contents" tab.

Click on <Modify>. Click on "TOC 3". Click on <Modify>. Click on the Bold icon to unselect the Bold attribute. Click on <OK> three times.

TOC ERRORa

When you FINISH recording, the Minidisc recorder Writes the TOC (Table of Contents) - so you see it flashing TOC or Update when you finish recording - you need to Leave POWER ON and have the unit on for about 30 seconds for it to finish this. IF you don't, the unit doesn't know where to find the files since there is no TOC. Try a Sony home unit - you might get one more shot at it working with that.

Spontaneous MD erasure

Well, depending how the content was recorded, there may be a slim chance to recover the audio. To me it looks like TOC was not written successfully, effectively deleting the TOC.
You can try TOC cloning with this 'blank' MD using another MD player, but your track markers will be lost during the cloning. If it works, at best you will end up with ONE long track. Then you can edit and reset your track markers.

It may be also be a good idea, to try the JE440 carefully with junk content to make sure it still works ok when writing TOC. You may have an intermittent problem too. I'd be very careful editing MD in this unit until it has been confirmed the TOC writing works ok. You may want to check the over-write head assembly and the cable that connects it. Sometimes these cables develop hairline cracks causing intermittend write action.

Check out www.minidisc.org forum for TOC cloning.

Good luck recovering your audio.
