Question about Dryers
There is probably a problem with the centrifugal switch, which is built into the motor. There may also be a loose wire which should be connected to the switch. If the switch itself is bad, it will probably require a new motor, unless you have access to a good "tinkerer" who might fix the switch.

SOURCE: GE dryer starts but..... stops
What you describe is either a failed evenheat board or a failed motor relay.
Please post the complete model number from the machine and I can help you narrow it down. There should be a wiring diagram inside the console with voltage checks also.

there is a holding contact at the motor wiring, check the schematics and trace that holding contact. it should hold the motor running as soon as it starts.

It sounds like you need a start switch located on the motor To replace this you will need to get the 2 screws off where the harness plugs into the motor MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF :) Ask you locat parts placeGood luck:)

most likely the evenheat board is bad, but it could be the motor relay, get under the console and check the trouble shooting wiring diagram. there are several checks you can do to narrow it down.
