Air jet tub shoots out black flakes

We have just moved into our new home, it had reno's done 7 years ago. The bathroom has an air jet tub. There are holes all along the bottom sides of the tub.I have ran the tub at least 30 times. I started with Jet tub cleaner, then bleach, and then oxyclean. But the problem will not stop. I have let it soak for a day in oxyclean, but that still did not solve it. We have taken the side panel off and can not see any problems. I am very frustrated and would love to know how to fix this!

It sounds like there is a build-up of some kind in the lines. Replacing the lines may be your simplest solution. Replacing the entire system would definitely fix the black flakes.

SOURCE: Leaks from jets along outer wall

This is a hard fix, The jets are glued on to the back of the tub with an epoxy type material. the jets should spin on and off from the inside of the tub. You need to determine if it is the hole where the jet is that's leaking or if it is the jet assembly and tubing that is leaking. If it is the jet hole that is leaking, spin the jet off and use aquarium grade silicone (Lowes carries it)
spread this around the piece sticking thru the tub and spin the jet back on. This is a hit or miss fix. No easy fix if it is the tubes or jet assembly, full access necessary for this repair.

Are they white flakes? Sounds like you have lime deposits turning loose in the plumbing.

Was the unit purchased and installed new? Maybe the privious owner had a hard water problem.

In either case, you may have to invest in a water softener.

Can not get the jets to work

Most of the control buttons on a tub are not electrical. These buttons are connected to an air line that runs to the motor. Sometimes an aggressive button push can literally blow the air line right off of the bottom of the button.
This problem is as easy to fix as it sounds. Find the loose air line and push it back onto the button. You will need to open up your access panel. Bring a flashlight.
Be sure to check the connection at the motor too. Good luck

Whirlpool tub, jets come on and won't shut off. No water in tub.

Is it a jetted tub, or a air bath tub with holes or jets in the floor? If it has holes or jets in the floor, the control box is bad and needs replaced. If it is a jetted tub, there may be a water level sensor, if so the sensor may be bad causing the tub to turn on.
