How old is this set? That model seems strange to me for a direct view TV and does not appear in any of my references.

I can suggest unplugging the TV and leaving it off over night. This will do a power reset and may correct the problem. If not the only way to determine the problem with the TV is testing the circuits. For a simple repair you can expect to pay in the ballpark of $100 for the repair.

Hope that helps.....

Snowy screen

Hello, The snow is due to a tuner failure, this can only be repaired by replacing or repairing the tuner itself. Your post shows model number PV-DM2793, and the tuner part number is ENG36715G. It's available from several electronic part stores, try, there is one still available there. The tuner is located directly behind the cable connector(threaded connector)located in the rear of the TV where the cable or antenna connects to, it solders vertically into the main board.

My tv is less than 5 yrs old when I turn it on all

The hourglass distortion is usually due to bad solder connections in an area called the pincushion correction circuit, and repairing them usually takes care of that trouble. Whether this caused anything else to go bad and led to the other troubles your set has or they are unrelated is impossible to tell without finding what's failed.

If you had just the pincushion distortion, I'd say you might be able to try repairing the set yourself if you can use a soldering iron on electronic circuitry (or if you know someone who can). But with the other troubles, your only solution is to take the set to a service shop for an estimate by a technician. Troubleshooting often needs special tools and skills as well as the manufacturer's service information, and it's possible to make things worse by trying to do repairs without experience.

Given the low cost of smaller TV sets today, you might find it's more economical to replace this set rather than repairing it. I don't know what shops are charging to do estimates these days. The shop I worked for used to charge $20 (applied to the repair) to do a check and give an estimate, and I got out of the business 10 years ago. Overall, the cost of repairing this may run over $100. Of course, I could be wrong. Maybe start with an estimate and then decide what to do based on the dollars.

Hope this helps a little. Thanks for using Fixya!

I was watching my tv (sanyo) with cable hooked to it. The cable all of a sudden went out. I tried hooking up the dvd player and the tv is no longer recognizing the cable box or dvd player. I don't know...

sound like a tuner problem. there is a resistor that goes to the tuner that could of went bad 39,000 ohms i think which should have a orange white orang strips around it and a gold. anyway there is a problem with tuner. Sanyo was good about haveing a problem with tuners in there smaller sets. If you do not know anything about how to repair you probly shoud take to a shop but the total cost might be high and not worth it in the long run. think before you jump still water runs deep.

I have a phillips magnovox big screen (March 2000) model # 9P6444 C103 - the picture is very dark and is best watched with the room lights off... what needs to be replaced or fixed?

The coolant fluid in the blue and green picture tubes is in need of changing.Unless you have done this before I do not recommend that you attempt this repair.A shop shoud be able to make this set look like new again for about $275

Focus issues

My reply is bit technical. Your camera requires Flang-Back Adjustment.
Above said adjustment will set focus lenses in correct order / position to obtain crispy focus as it was before.
There are few special tools designed by Sony used in Flang-Back adjustment and only Sony Service Centers can perform such adjustments. Non-Sony repair shops do not have such things.
Just for reference, below view shows required tools for adjustments in this model.

Need further info let me know please.

Snow on Screen

There is a bad connection inside the tuner of the set. In order to repair this, the tuner must be removed and opened. This repair should be simple for any TV repair shop and not cost much. This is simply a resolder job. It will take a few minutes to get at the part that needs to be resoldered though. Call around and get a few prices for a resolder of the tuner input "F" connector.

first thing you did not mention anything about the sound, if you are getting good sound .if you are not getting good sound associated with the problem you are having.the tech who you carry the set to ,did not check the tuner and the IF circuit there is where the sound and video originate from.if the sound is good then they should have looked in the video circuit a ic conrols that section.i would advice that you take it back and mention it to them.these set are the one that have thier tuner built on the board.and like to have that type of problem sometimes soldering around the tuner casing will solve the problem.good luck, any other question contact me on my email or on this same website.
