With a T8 torx driver, remove the screw in the center of the rear panel (do NOT remove the screw just above the HDMI port).

Use the padded handles on a pair of Channel Lock pliers (e.g. needle nose, or lineman's) to hold the back edge of the top bowed up, then slide a 7'' plastic scribe (e.g. I used a Tupperware Citrus Peeler with good results, or a Stanley 66-114 screwdriver should work fine, too) in from the back along one end and pry the free end of the center tab 'in' slightly to unlatch it from the bottom of the case.

Once that tab unlatches, the whole top should pop free, but still needs to hinge up towards the front for the last hook to be undone... just keep standing it up and it should release far enough to slide sideways and unhook before the lid reaches vertical.

Do you have a Tivo Premier and are you experiencing wireless communication...

Recenty, I discovered that devices were dropping off of my wireless network (Netgear N300 wireless N with DSL modem). After trial and error, the solution to the wireless communication problems was to create a wireless N bridge using the Tivo Wireless N adapters.

To use this feature, you will need two Tivo wireless N adapters. One wireless N adapter should be set to bridge and plugged into an available ethernet port into your router. The second adapter should be set to client and plugged into the ethernet port in the back of the Tivo Premier. Once the power has been applied to both wireless adapters and the Wireless adapter (connected to the router) has connected to an available address on your router, press and hold the button (on top of each adapter) to establish a secure wireless connection between both adapters.

Once each adapter has established communication, you will have a separate 5Ghz Wi Fi signal (as well as a channel )dedicated to you Tivo devices throughout the house. Each Tivo Premier added to the house should have the wireless N adapter and connected using the secure connection to the wireless bridge by pressing the button on each adapter (the one on the router as well as the one on the Tivo to install).

If sucessfully installed, you should be able to connect to all Tivos on the network for management as well as streaming. If communication between the Tivos isn't successful, you will have to restart each Tivo and establish a new connection to the Tivo service.

Another suggestion when using the wireless N adapters is to setup a static IP address on each Tivo that is higher than the IP address assigned to the wireless adapter. Each Tivo utilized two IP addresses for each device (one for the adapter and one for the Tivo). You may have to check the router administration screen to determine the IP addresses used for the wireless adapters before establishing a static IP address for the Tivos. If you assign static IP addresses to each Tivo, you will have to restart each Tivo and reconnect them to the Tivo service to establish proper network mapping.

With this wireless network configuration, you will ensure that your Tivos are connected to the service using high speed, dedicated wireless N communication for streaming purposes between the services offered while not impacting other computers, servers, video game machines, and tablets that are connected into your house.

Since the Roamio uses a built in wireless adapter, you may not have success in adding a Roamio to the wireless bridge created on your router unless you disable the built in wireless adapter and purchase the external wireless N model from Tivo.

Instructions on setting up wireless bridge can be found at this location:

I use a TiVo roamio basic, it can record up to 4 programs at once and has a 500gb harddrive and is made for OTA, but can also use a cable card. Check it out on eBay.com or TiVo.com.

What is the best way to remove protection from TiVo videos?

Yes, TIVO recordings store the video using MPEG-2 compression and include copyright protection. To retain its intact video quality, you can use a copy-protection removal program. In this way, protection is removed and the original video will be kept to be compatible with common media player. The program I recommend is Pavtube Video Converter which provides "Directly copy" option. Just input your TIVO access key, choose directly copy and you will get copy-free MPEG 2 video with extreme speed. I bought this program mainly to convert recorded TIVO videos for my iPad 3. This program provides presets for ipad. The output videos play perfectly in my iPad. http://www.pavtube.com/video_converter/

Programming my TiVo remote to control my Proview TV

  1. Cover the end of the TiVo remote control with your hand.
  2. Hold down the TiVo and TV POWER buttons simultaneously until the red light on the remote control remains on.
  3. Remove your hand from the end of the TiVo remote control.
  4. Enter code 0999.
After you enter the code, the red light will flash three times and then remain on.
  1. Press CHANNEL UP once every two seconds. This will test hundreds of codes, one by one.
IMPORTANT: Do not go any faster than this or you may skip over a code that works.
  1. If you press CHANNEL UP and your TV turns off, press ENTER to select the code. Press the TV POWER button to test the code. If your TV turns on, you have successfully programmed the remote

DVD stuck/jammed in tray

there may be two screws on the top of the tray that holds the rounded magnet, the one that is placed to hold the disc when spinning, remove it, you can then simply take the disc out.
