SOURCE: colour change and sound loss

I found that simply by switching the player off and unplugging it from the electricity supply for approx 1 hour, when switched back on every thing was ok again.

SOURCE: My Philips dvdr 3380 will

Please try to put in an ordinary audio CD track and see if this is detected. If yes the optical is working, if not there is no laser scanning and the possibility of the head being faulty is high.
Now certain cleaner disks are not read and so will not be tracked. but the best is for cleaning manually the laser head eye with a cotton bud very softly and without any pressing of the lens eye.
If there is still no result then watch the DVD if it spins or tries to spin. If the head unit moves up or down to focus or in and out of the drive, if so the board seems to have issues and the possibility of the optical head being good.
Finally try to see if the set records on a DVD with a given signal source. If not the fault is confirmed that the main PCB, processing section is faulty.

SOURCE: Can you please tell me

Hi,

These are the instructions for changing the DVDR3380 to region free:

1. Remove any disc from the player
2. Switch the power off
3. Power back on again
4. From the remote enter 0 - 0 - 0 - 9 - OK (The player should display the current region code)
5. Open and close the disc drawer
6. From the remote enter 0 - 0 - 8 - 6 - 0 - 0 - 0 - OK
7. Open and close the disc drawer again

The DVD player should now be region free. It's usually a good idea to switch the power off and back on after entering region codes to make sure they have been stored.

Please note that not all region hacks work with different firmware versions and sometimes the code entry is different depending on which region the player was originally set for.

Please let me know if this code worked for you.

Regards,
BElectric

What are signs of picture tube going?

Signs of a CRT going old, are bad focussing, unnatural colours and hues of a certain colour (red, green, or blue) if you watch black/white pictures. In colour pictures, black sequences also show hue.

My tv 32pw9617 switches of by itself.

sounds lick you may have a dry joint in the powers or line o/p stage.

as a rare fault it could be the crt with an intermittant internal s/c. but you would notice the colour was tinted either red, green, or blue in the dark areas of the pic.

Well now I'm pretty sure that you can adjust the hue/contrast/brightness directly from the program using the drivers to access the device or you can simply go to philips.com and ask the resident experts. they are the very best chance you have in solving a philips related problem as they are the one who work with the product you are having a problem with.

Dvd playing blue picture

if it is hooked up with componant, thats the red blue green cables for video, and red white for audio, then you probabily eather dont have the red pluged all the way in, or you have the red audio, and red video---reversed, make sure to check them on the dvd player, and on the tv, if there correct, try using the composit input, that is the yellow red and white

I connected my Philips DVDR 3576H to my Sony Bravia TV and it looks like connection doesn't work. I used cables provided by Philips but I can not get access to this empty channel, on which I could get the...

The source is E1, unless you are trying to display something froma camcorder or security cam.
Philips does not provide enough cables with this product - they only provide you one set with which to PLAY a movie. You will need another red, white and yellow cable with which to RECORD. If you have a cable/satellite box, connect a 2nd red, white and yellow cord from cable box OUT to Philips AV IN. Switch the SOURCE on the Philips remote to E1, and your TV to whichever source you have the original red, white and yellow plugged into. You should get picture, and be able to record now.

1}DVDR 3480 playback on many Dvds widescreen insteadof 4.3 as set. 2) my Vcr. has 3pin phono. Dvdr scart to Phono .Xt2 says nosignal. Phono tophono (cam socket) no signal .cannot copt tape to DVD. 3)B W...

1) The 4:3 / 16:9 option only optimises playback for that particular type of TV. The 4:3 setting also allows you to set the output between:

  • 4:3 PS - expands the picture vertically and horizontally which gets rid of the black bars, but you also lose the left and right edges of the picture.
  • 4:3 LB - Letterbox format, displays the full picture from the disc, with black bars top and bottom.
The PS option loses the bars on 16:9 widescreen DVDs, but may still leave bars on true cinema widescreen DVDs, which are 21.7:9
This is normal.
  • 16:9 - Optimises the picture for a widescreen TV. Again True cinema widescreen DVDs will still have black bars.
2) All of the external inputs will show "No signal" until there is actually a signal playing into them.
EG to copy VHS to DVD, you will need to select the relevant scart or phono input, and press play before the recorder will register a signal and allow recording.
Some bought VHS videos have copy protection, and may cause problems when copying to DVD.

3) Greenish playback maybe caused by colour setting on TV being too high. Also check Hue or Tint settings on the TV, if it has them.

4) For some reason, in their infinite wisdom, Philips omitted the Video Plus facility from this model.
