Question about Imation (01946) External Floppy Drive

1 Answer

Data transfer I have LS 120 Imation super disks with data stored, but no drive to read them. Do you know of a service that can transfer the data from the super disk to a standard floppy, cd, or dvd?

Re: data transfer

Usually your local Fry's, Staples, Office Depot could do the job for you (or even a local PC Tech).
Good luck!

Sabrent external floppy reader is asking me to format my floppy disk. how can a format it without deleting my files on floppy disk?

Your floppy disk drive may be defective. Also, Some floppy drives are manufactured differently. Your best bet is to find another floppy drive to read your floppy disk. You can try to take it to the nearest computer store and ask them to read it for you. If they can read it at the computer store? The Sabrent drive you received if bad. If they cannot read it the floppy is bad. If the floppy is bad you can try to download free data recovery software to attempt to recover your data, files etc. Good luck

Imation 11795 driver WindowsXP

IMATION stopped making the "LS-120" (Laser Servo) drive many years ago, when USB-interface memory-sticks became cheaper & faster. Imation did have parallel-port device-driver software for Windows 95/98/ME, but never updated them for Windows NT/2000/XP.

Instead, disassemble the case, and you will find an IDE-interface Imation LS-120 drive inside. Connect the same "smaller" 4-pin power-connector that used to connect to a 1.44 Mbyte 3.5-inch diskette, set the "master/slave" jumper, and connect an 80-pin IDE ribbon-cable, and connect the other end of the ribbon-cable to an IDE socket on the motherboard.

I am trying to transfer photos and data from 3.5 disk to cd's and memory cards but when I insert a disk it is telling me that the disk is not formatted and ask me if I want to format now. I know these disk...

You can't retrieve data from those disks on whatever computer you're using it on. It apparently doesn't support the same format that you used save the data to the disks initially. I don't know what you can do, other than just trying the disks on any computer you can find that has a floppy disk drive until something works. Personally, I absolutely hate all the formats there are for removable disks. I have problems just like that with CDs all the time.
Well, good luck.

Disk with data stored on it says that it is not formatted

Maybe you had something with a magnetic field lying nex to the flopy drive and the code got mixed up and now the data is not readable.
You can try with raw extraction like in CD's. you need to have a program to recover the data without having to actually decode them. I used to use Recovery Toolbox for CD's, I'm sure there's a simular programe for floppy's somewhere on the net. after recovering, things worked on the computer, although the dish was never usable since the day I got the message 'can't read data'/'no data'/'not formatted' etc.
With floppy's I think that you'll never get the data from it by computer itself. I didn't get the data from the corrupt CD's, and they have much more advancer programs than floppy discs. so I recomend you find the program, get the data and throw the floppy away. If you have problems finding the program, post and I'll help.

Define "no tworks"?
When you insert a disk, do you hear it spinning?
If it does spin, does it transfer any data from the disk into the computer?

Imation SD-USB-M2 SuperDisk USB(MAC)

Sounds like a dead (or jammed) motor -- the one that spins the media. It's relatively easy to open the case, disconnect the USB-to-IDE interface adapter from the 40-pin IDE connector, and go onto eBay to find any "internal" or "external" LS-120 device, and swap it in, to replace the "not-spinning" device.
