Question about Microsoft Computers & Internet

Connection problem for some programs

I'm having problems with some programs (e.g. AVG Anti-Virus, Java Update, Skype) accessing the internet to get updates or just load. I'm using a Sony Vaio VGN-CR35 running Vista Home Premium. My actual Internet connection is fine, I can use IE to browse, to get Windows updates, etc, but when say AVG tries to update it's virus definitions it can't. At first I suspected an OS (Vista Home Premium) issue, but after looking at various Windows based solutions (like making sure the firewall is not blocking the programs - exceptions, etc.) and having a friend running Vista say they had no problems, I've now come to suspect the problem lies elsewhere. Would greatly appreciate any help... Thanks, Ken

It's possible that windows defender is interfering with the functions of you software.
turn windows defender off and see if you still have the problem.

go to control panel and open windows defender and turn off real-time protection

if this helps please leave a vote in fixya..thanks

I was trying to install some update and it would not install. What was is- the update available for AVG product cannot be installed

Has the subscription run out on the AVG product? An update will not install on an outdated subscription.

Do you have more than one anti-virus program installed? having more than one anti-virus program installed can cause problems as the two programs (or more) may be fighting each other.

Finally, try uninstalling the AVG product and reinstalling it again. Then try the update.

Cant access my hotmail e mails

First, update your java runtime environment software to the latest version for here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Then update your Adobe flash player software to the latest version.
For Internet Explorer you need this update:
http://majorgeeks.com/Adobe_Flash_Player_for_Internet_Explorer_d5163.html

For Firefox, Netscape, Opera and Chrome use this update:
http://majorgeeks.com/Adobe_Flash_Player_for_Firefox_Mozilla_Netscape_Opera_d7806.html

If that doesn't fix it you might have some viruses and malware.

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE programs below.

Download, Install and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756
When Installing choose the non-pro version.

Download, Unzip, Install and Run TDSSKiller:
http://majorgeeks.com/Kaspersky_TDSSKiller_d6895.html

Download, Install and Run Super Anti-Spyware:
http://majorgeeks.com/SUPERAntiSpyware_d5116.html

If you have an outdated Anti-virus program then Download, Install and Run Avira Anti-Virus:
http://majorgeeks.com/Avira_AntiVir_Personal_-_FREE_Antivirus_d955.html
Make sure to select ALL of the "threat categories" when you install or configure Avira.

You should be in pretty good shape if you run and install all of these programs.

Problem accessing facebook

First, update your java app here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Also, update your flash player as well. If you are using Internet explorer browser then use this flash update:
http://majorgeeks.com/Adobe_Flash_Player_for_Internet_Explorer_d5163.html

If you are using a different browser than IE then get this flash update:
http://majorgeeks.com/Adobe_Flash_Player_for_Firefox_Mozilla_Netscape_Opera_d7806.html

You should also clean out your temporary internet files. I would get a little app called CCleaner. It's totally FREE and you can clean off a ton of junk files and temporary internet files in a single click and it's super easy to use. You can get it here:
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5125

IF you are still having problems it is possible you have some viruses and /or malware messing with you and you should do the following:

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE programs below.

Download, Install and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756
When Installing choose the non-pro version.

Download, Unzip, Install and Run TDSSKiller:
http://majorgeeks.com/Kaspersky_TDSSKiller_d6895.html

Download, Install and Run Super Anti-Spyware:
http://majorgeeks.com/SUPERAntiSpyware_d5116.html

If you have an outdated Anti-virus program then Download, Install and Run Avira Anti-Virus:
http://majorgeeks.com/Avira_AntiVir_Personal_-_FREE_Antivirus_d955.html
Make sure to select ALL of the "threat categories" when you install or configure Avira..

You should be in pretty good shape if you run and install all of these programs.

I M WORRIED ABOUT VIRUS. WHAT CAN I DO NOW?

If you are worried about viruses affecting your computer, I suggest you install an anti-virus program on your computer. There are commercial anti-virus programs such as Nortons and McAfee.
There are also freeware anti-virus programs on the Internet, AVG is a good program. Generally commercial programs offer better protection.
AVG also offers a commercial version of their freeware anti-virus program.
Please click on this link to download freeware AVG should you wish to use this program :-

It runs multiple screens with the message internet script error

Hi hbatessr. You have a virus/spyware problem. Whatever has infected your system is trying to access different websites. You need to install and run a spy-ware and anti-virus program to resolve this. If you want some free programs, go to www.download.com and search for and download AVG anti-virus free version and Ad-Aware free version. Once you update and run both of these products, you will find lots of stuff that has infected your computer and needs to be deleted.
Hopes this helps!

My avg antivirus 8 is not getting updated

Do you have automatic updates turned on?

If you do have automatic updates turned on - you will never be able to update yourself because the updates have already been done by the program.
