Makita demolition hammer stopped working - believed electrical pblm

My HM1211 demolition hammer just stopped working - I have removed the handle to dismantle the motor section and found that the brushes are in excellent condition. I have also removed the motor from the worm gear and applied power using the switch and it again does not work. It is thus evident that the problem is with the motor unit and more than likely the switch itself - does anyone know how I can repair the switch and is there a cut-off? Thanks, Chris

You have to use an ohmmeter to check it, you must check the continuity of motor coil after the switch terminal if in this point you have the reading less than 200 ohms, try checking it before the switch but this time you have to switch it on. If you have the readings continue to check it from the Power Plug. Most cases the problem is only in Power cord .

Before checking the motor i would check the cord...

then check the switch

or at the switch i would disconnect the load side and jump it bypassing the switch(carefully)

if the brushes and the armature look good..check to see if the spring around the brush holder isnt burnt or cut...

last i would do a resistance check through the field windings...

Why don't my demolition hammer stop hammering

Because if the power is interrupted or the carbon brushes (motor protection tripped) or had jammed or enough working hours without care. or become hot to prolonged stress that not every type of hammer is suitable for a rotary hammer can only 1/5 turn to the use of time than a REAL demolition hammer.

Dewalt demo hammer, when switched on the motor speed surges up and down constantly. What is wrong?

Check the brushes first. If they are worn or sticking they could cause this.

If the brushes are fine and not worn down then it is most likely the electronics/ variable speed module.

My hm0810b hammers softly and smells like its burning

Stop running it! Don't use tools if they smell like something is burning. Often times you'll make it worse and will make the repair more costly. It could be as simple as replacing the brushes.

To check for worn brushes, remove the black metal cover on the bottom. Then unscrew the black plastic brush caps. Worn brushes will be very low and not have mush carbon left, have a broken spring, or may be sticking in the brush holder and aren't sliding in and out well enough.

If it's something more than that, take it in for repair.
