My administrator account wont let me log on and wont let me change things how can i change another account to administrator without permission from the original administrator

Without using 3rd party pay-for tools, I would recommend locating the Windows CD that came with the machine. I would then boot to the CD, and use the Recovery Console option. When you get into the recovery console, you should be able to log in using the administrator password only. This doesn't load the Administrator profile, it just uses the password for permissions reasons. I would then navigate to the Documents and Settings folder (assuming this is XP) and rename the Administrator profile folder to something else. Once you rename this folder, restart the computer, log in as Administrator again, and Windows will create a new profile for the Administrator, and leave your old one alone. Once you're logged in, you can browse to the old profile and get your files and pictures back.

Sounds like your user account has been inadvertantly changed to a standard account. The only way to change it is to log in as Administrator (your husbands user account) and change your user account back to administror permission) Vista's UAC (user account control) can be tricky and it's probably a simple error where your admin permission was somehow taken away. If you are unsuccessful, log in as Administrator and remove your account, then create a new account granting Administrator priviledges. Hope this clarifies your issue. Best of Luck!

Enable Boot Logging

Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice


select safe mode with command prompt


Click start run type cmd press Enter

black screen should open DOS mode

this will vary depending on your operating system


type in net user username

For eg. If you want to change administrator password , type net user Administrator


it will prompt you to enter the new password

enter the new password and the password is changed

you could download all of these or just one save them to a usb drive for later use if one fails to remove the password

Only an administrator can elevate your permission level to Admin. If you are not the Admin, log into the Admin account, click on the user icon at the top of the Start menu, click on "Manager Another Account" click on the one you want to change and select "Change Account type". Step 1.
Change your account permissions if there isn't an administrator account currently setup.
During some installations Windows users were allowed to install the program without setting up an administrator account.

Click on "Start" then "Control Panel" to open the Control Panel.

Click on "Users and Accounts" or "Users Accounts and Family Safety".
Click on "User Accounts."

Click on "Add or remove user accounts" then "create a new account".

Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows 7, and its predecessor, Vista, offer a new layer of security that is different from previous releases, such as XP or 2000.
The earlier Windows versions treated all users as system administrators by default. With Windows Vista and 7, all accounts are treated as limited users.
The User Account Control utility provides elevated permissions when required and prompts users for those permissions.
You can control UAC behavior in Windows 7 so it does not prompt you for these permissions.
Start your computer with Windows 7 and log in as you normally would. Your desktop should appear, and any background applications should be closed.
Click the Windows "Start" orb at the lower left corner of your screen.
Click your account picture at the top right of the menu.
You will be presented with a window that allows you to make changes to your user account.
Click the link that says "Change User Account Control Settings."

Look for the User Account Control options slider.
The default option of User Account Control is to notify you only when programs try to make changes to your computer or you install new programs.
The option directly below that does the same thing but does not dim your desktop.
The "Never Notify" option at the bottom of the list eliminates the prompts for permissions.
Move the slider to the bottom of the options window.
Click "OK."

I tried to change permissions on my hard drive and now I am unable to have access to anything other than just opening programs and folders.


Enable the administrator account, login as administrator and select your regular users folder and assign your regular user as owner.
Enable admin Open a cmd prompt, run as adminif in win vista/7 type without quotes "net use administrator /active:yes" Log out of current user and login as administrator
Now you should have permission to set permissions to your other users folder. Set ownership to originsl user.
