SOURCE: While rewinding, the DVD player just stopped working

Jeff/360Powner,

Tony/sonydvdvcr here,

I hope this helps. I have been unsuccessful in getting this to fix the tape player, but my sony dvd vcr slv360p unit now works and the dvd plays great. Still working on the tape part. Good Luck!

A few days ago when I was searching online for a solution to my own problem, I came across fixya. After posting the exact same problem as yourself, I began to remove the tape from the unit. Thinking I would have to cut the tape, I attempted to remove the video cassette without cutting it. I was successful. Here are the steps I took:

1. Remove the outer casing.

2. Remove the approx. 8" bar (2 screws) across the VHS entry area. (You can do with or without removing face of player. Be careful if done without)

3. Remove 4 or 5 screws in base holding the entire video assembly to floor.

4. Next, is the tricky part. First determine if the tape is one you want to salvage. If so, slide the tape film out of the roller areas where it is strewd out while it was being rewound so it is free, otherwise cut it. You will then have to pry the VHS up in the front through the entry door and push from the rear. Might have to try a few times, walk away, then try some more. But it will come free. Tension can be eased by simultaneously prying on the sidetabs holding the cassette in the player. Careful not to break tabs.

5. Once tape is free, you may be done, but I kept on in uncertainty.

6. Next I removed the entire video tape assembly by raising it off the tall pointed posts enough to clear them but not too much where you put excessive strain on the several computer bands that are attached.(I did not disconnect those, just be careful)

7. Raise the assembly off of the floor and then replace. There is a slim narrow plug style deal that is fixed to the floor that the assembly rests in. I believe this is significant to allow the player to reset.

8. Check power now before you replace everything. You should see the tape assembly physically reset and disengage from the rewind position.

9. Replace assembly and bar and face accordingly.

I hope this helps. I have been unsuccessful in getting this to fix the tape player, but my unit now works and the dvd plays great. Still working on the tape part. Good Luck!

SOURCE: Sony CD/DVD Player DVP-NS50P not playing my avi files DVD+RW

You need to convert avi files to dvd format before burning, otherwise the player won't recognize them. Google "avi to dvd" and you'll find a number of free or pay programs that will do the conversion for you.

SOURCE: What is a good burn program for this DVD player?

The Mac and software is not the problem. The Sony DVD player is the culprit. Sony has some proprietary bullsh.t lock hardwired into their system to not play burned discs.

Go on e-bay and look for region free DVD players, which will play any disc like a champ. Sony is a good brand, but they are picky about playing certain discs. Re-gift this thing to someone during Christmas or sell it.

No power to radio, fan, light on front panel.

Hi Tim,

It may be because of the fuse being blown up. You will find the fuse box in the front or in the bannet. Please check for the same. The fuse box will contain all the fuses together. Remove them and check if the connectivity between the two ends are still there. If not, buy a new fuse and enjoy! :)

Eject tray belt broke

Opening the DVD player tray is not as hard as you would think.

1. Remove three black screws holding the outer cover on the unit (located on rear of unit)

2. Carefully remove front panel trim by gently prying six clips (3 on top, 3 on bottom) away from unit and pulling panel away from unit.

3. Locate opening at the front of the DVD player that houses a larger white gear.

4. Using a finger, gently move gear until DVD tray begins to move outward.

5. Continue until DVD is fully ejected.

6. Try plugging the unit back into AC outlet and attempt to Open/Close the tray using the provided button on the Front Panel Circuit Board.

7. Reverse steps above to put unit back together.

Have you or have someone bench tested it before installation? It is much easier to diagnose for problem when you bench test.

It not turn on

Not sure what kind of connections you have, but be sure your unit is recieving good clean power. Try using another 12v constant and possibly a good 12v switched power source. Double check your ground wire as well. The unit may also be broken and might need service.
