Updated Bios for Toshiba Satelite C55-A5286 and now computer keeps crashing

I recently received my computer back from having a new video card put in. It required a BIOS upgrade from 1.10 to 1.30. My computer is now crashing every 30 minutes. It just shuts down. I hear the fan come to a stop and I push start. I hear the fan try to start, then stop. I hit start again and it starts. This happens the same way every time. I am not sure whether the problem has anything to do with the upgraded BIOS.

Sounds like it may be related to the installation of the new vid card. I'd take it back to the shop where I had it worked on and tell them the problems your experiencing and tell them they screwed it up and you want it fixed-pro bono!

SOURCE: CPU Upgrade

You pulled the processor out of your laptop ... that was a brave move ... generally laptop boards are fully integrated so there is very few options on changing the processor ... also because of the extreme heating conditions the heat sink bonding is very critical ... make sure you replace this properly or you will have overheating issues in the future ...

How can I identify the update that causes the crashing and freezing in windows 8.1?

Try going to Control Panel, and then uninstall programs. You should have an option to see recently installed updates. Find your most recent updates, the ones that date when your computer crashed, and then uninstall them. Then instead of doing an automatic install actually view you're updates, and install them manually, One at a time. If you can't even get your computer to start up, you might try putting in your CD of Windows 8.1, or if you don't have that, your reboot disc, and have your computer boot from disc instead of boot from drive. To do that you would have to go into your bios by pressing F2, F5, or F8 right after you start your computer up, and that should take you into your bios, at which point you change your boot settings. Save your save your changes, and then keep trying to boot your computer back up. If you don't have a boot disk, you're going to have to take it to someone who does, like at Best Buy or another computer repair company.

in the bios, there are usually settings for onboard devices. try turning off your onboard vga in the bios. and/or enabling/disabling pci-e video settings in the bios. it also helpful to ensure there is a monitor plugged into the video card. if there are 2 video outputs on the new card, try plugging the monitor into one, reboot, if nothing shows up, plug the monitor in the other one, reboot, if nothing shows up; i dont know :)

Satelite a100 bios password

How to enter the BIOS or CMOS setup.
Reasoning: IBM compatible users may need to enter the BIOS or CMOS setup to setup or change how their computer's hardware is currently configured.
Solution: Because of the wide variety of computer manufacturers and BIOS manufacturers over the evolution of computers, there have been numerous different ways to enter the BIOS or CMOS Setup. Below is a listing of the majority of these methods as well as other recommendations for entering the BIOS setup.
Notice: If you are unable to get into the BIOS or CMOS setup because of a password please see document CH000235.
New computers Thankfully, computers that have been manufactured in the last few years will allow you to enter the CMOS by pressing one of the below five keys during the boot.
A user will know when to press this key when they see a message similar to the below example as the computer is booting. Some older computers may also display a flashing block to indicate when to press the F1 or F2 keys.
Press <F2> to enter BIOS setup
Tip: If your computer is a new computer and you are unsure of what key to press when the computer is booting, try pressing and holding any key on the keyboard. This will cause a stuck key error, which may allow you to enter the BIOS setup.

If the above steps didnt work can do this:

start
control panel
user account
Click on : Computer Administrator

Good Luck hope this gets ya back on line
