YAMAHA RX-A830. No sound on central channel

Hi, I have a brand new YAMAHA RX-A830 but I have a problem. No sound at all on the central channel even in the setup menu with test tone. All other channels OK. I already made a lot of test. - Changing speaker. No luck! - Try every sound mode. No luck! - Reflash firmware. No luck! - Testing preout. Yes! I have all channels ok on preout jacks! So, I presume that it's an hardware problem on the power amplifier of the central channel. Any idea? Any advise? By the way, I got the schematics and I'm a not so bad technician. Sincerly, Mike

SOURCE: RX-V1600 when i turn on no sound or channels display on

If you are sure that the speaker wiring is correct and connections are good, then:

  • Check the input and output connections are correct for each source.
  • Check that the input mode is not set to DTS or Analog - rotate the input selector to the source and the press the input mode, set it to Auto.
  • Also check that the front speakers to be used are selected A or B (or A+B).
  • If there is an optimiser microphone supplied with this receiver, ensure that it is not still plugged in.
Hope one of these solutions work for you.

My Yamaha RX-A830 won't play the sub. I've reset the speakers with the mic multiple times but it's still not working. I confirmed that the sub works on another receiver.

There is a difference between SUB and LFE. In 5.1 mode, the LFE is the ".1" channel. It will output bass only when audio information signal is addressed to this channel. In stereo mode, depending of the receiver setting, it can output normal bass when front speakers cannot handle low frequency. In setup menu, you'll probably have to set your Front speakers as "Small" to make the sub channel taking the relay in low frequencies. There also can be many other reasons for your problem but this might be the solution. Good luck!

Sometimes only one channel plays when playing CDs or DVDs. Jiggling the input knob will at times cause both channels to operate. This unit is a Yamaha RX-770 that I bought new. Thanks!

It sounds like you know what the problem is. Get it fixed.

Or try this temporary fix.

Or turn it off and manually operate the selector and all controls a thousand times to wipe the apparent oxides from their contacts.

I set up my RX-V365 recently, and the center speaker doesnt seem to work. i use it for listening to music, the sound should come out right?

Sound from a speaker, nah, that's an optional feature (kidding).

If you dig into the manual annd go through the setup using the test tones you can prove/disprove the viability of all the speakers and channels. THAT is required before we try to listen to 'music' (assumed 2-channel) on multiple speakers.
Sound Field programs (page 25) can be applied to just about any source. Experiment, even within a given recording. You'll be amazed how different digital processes can make even familiar recordings new and more interesting. I've discovered instruments and sounds in old recording I never noticed before.

I have an old Yamaha RX-V793. It works perfectly fine. Now I have a new LCD screen, a new DVD player and my new cable tv set top box. All 3 take and use HDMI. I'd like to be able to HEAR BOTH my DVD...

hi,
u can make connections only through digital inputs(optical and coaxial). u can connect the digital outputs of ur dvd and cable set top box to the receiver. no way to connect HDMI. HDMI is a high definition media interface. for using it u have to go for a av receiver that supports HDMI.
ok

Yamaha RX-V800 shuts down when any control button is pressed

What if you DON'T use the remote? Does it shut down when just using it?

If SO, you have a bigger problem.

If NOT, it sounds like the remote is hosed - sending a code to shut off.

Do you have another remote of any brand that you could set to do something simple, like change volume? Don't train it from the original, though, or it would do the same thing.
