I find my digging bar really useful for digging holes in the ground when i want to plant a new tree or shrub, but you can also use them for putting barbecue stands in etc

I want to buy a digging bar. How do I know what type to buy or are they all the same?

Before you rush out to buy a digging poll, take into account the following things;
How big a hole to do you need to make?
What is the soil like?
Do you need to move any heavy equipment to create the hole?

Can I put a 18" bar on my Poulan 35 CC, If not why.

yes you can put an 18 inch bar on this saw. you could even go with a 20 or 24 inch bar as long as it will fit the saw. I wouldn't go much bigger though because it really doesn't have enough power to handle a much bigger bar. And, getting into the dirt makes the saw chain really dull really quickly. Dig around those roots if you don't want to be stuck sharpening your chain every 10 seconds. Take it to your local saw shop and they can fix you right up! Hope this helps...

When should i use a tamper digging bar?

Tamper bars are used when you have tightly packed dirt full of rocks and you need to loosen it up and then tamp it down. You can also use this bar to dig post holes and then you can tamp the soil around the pole afterwards.

What are digging bars used for? can't i just use a shovel to dig?

Home Depot explains:
"Whether you need to plant a tree or dig a hole for a backyard barbeque pit, there are special tools you can use to make the job easier. Digging bars are designed specifically to help you clear dirt, rocks and other items out of the way. Although there is a range of available products to choose from, most are steel bars in different shapes and sizes that are designated for specific uses. Digging bars often work better than shovels, which can bend or break in rocky soil. Whether you are doing landscaping in your yard, digging holes to lay pipes or digging postholes for a deck or fence, a digging bar can help you get the job done more quickly than other tools"
