My Aspire 5670 screen is dead.

Update the video drives, if that doesn't work replace the vga cable. If that doesn't work try it on another monitor.

Screen is white with black vertical lines upon booting up. I can't get beyond this screen.

The video card (built-in on the motherboard) maybe faulty or the LCD screen is faulty.
Connect an external monitor to the video port of your laptop, power up the monitor first then boot up your laptop. If the video card id OK then the laptop will automatically divert the video to the external monitor. Then the problem is a faulty LCD screen.
If the external monitor also displays black vertical lines then you have a faulty video card and since it is part of the motherboard it is impossible to fix.

It displays colorful lines on the monitor...cant see nothing

Test your laptop with an external monitor and find out if the external video goes bad too. If both, internal and external images go bad, you have a problem with the video card.
If external works fine and only internal goes bad, most likely it’s either bad video cable or LCD screen failure.

Powers up screen lights up with vertical lines of different colors. NO desktop. DVD indicator lit up on keyboard along with Play, Rev and FF indictors, put a movie in and it wont play that either the drive...

Most likely you have had an lcd panel failure. The only way to tell for sure is either hook the laptop up to a tv or an external monitor, if the video chip is good it will send the signal to the external monitor and you can run the computer that way. If you do get a signal on the external, then you need to change out the lcd panel. As far as the dvd, you probably just cannot see that everything is working because the panel has failed.

Vertical lines on lcd how can i fix it works perfect with ext monitor and i did bios update and it help some?

Restart the Computer and access the BIOS and check if the vertical lines are visible. If the vertical lines are visible in the BIOS then the issue is with the LCD screen itself and may require service. This is confirmed when an external monitor works fine. If the issue is related to the video card of the Computer then the lines should also appear on the external monitor which is not the case.

Got black line in the middle of my 42 inch plasma screen

Perform the following tasks:
Determine if the "line" is an external cause or internal.
By external, it means a result of the interface, cabling or other boxes that are connected to the set.By internal, it means a defect within the hardware or software of the set itself.

Do find out you must disconnect everything but, say one video source. The best would be to unplug, pull everything from the back or front of the tv .By a process of elimination you should be able to convince yourself the source of the vertical line is external to the tv or internal to it.
Then, once you have decided that, you can attack the place that is most likely to be the source. For example, some of the early sets had some non-standard processors and had to be upgraged to the new standard after they were purchased by the consumer. It had to do with the HD and HDMI interface connections, but could have effected other stuff. Also, some S video inputs have glitches in them.

A vertical line on my PC

I know not everyone has this ability, but if you can, go to a friend's house and hook up an external monitor to your laptop. You may need to use the function keys to switch from LCD to external, but if the line goes away on the external, you have a bad LCD. If the line shows up still on the external, then your problem is either:

a) video driver (free, easy fix)
b) bad inverter (video 'outputter') ...approximately $10-50/varies + labor costs to replace
c) bad video card/motherboard ...usually between $200-$400 + labor to replace

Hope this helps - please be sure to rate my answer :)
