How can wind blow in one part of the city and not in another, just a few blocks away?

It would be dependent on the structures in the area. Wind is generally diffuse and spreads out in velocity the father away from the center of the front or pressure area. IT cannot just stop in a single line.

30km to knots

Kilometer is a unit of length. Knot is a unit of velocity.

30 km per hour is about 16.2 knots. 30 km per minute is about 972 knots. 30 km per day is about 0.675 knots.

Using the formula developed by brier and panofsky, determine the storm central pressure if the approximate velocity velocity of winds at low pressure area is 40 knots

Panofsky and Brier methods is normally being used for the conversion of barometric pressure to speed in m/sec or to nm/hr (knots). Being a professor in a maritime schools for this lesson, i encourage students to understand this.

P&B Methods:
If you use SVPAM Calculator
(1016-PO)= square root = x 3.5 + 3.9 = velocity in m/sec

PO = Pressure Observed
so practical.. :) SIR JAPZ

Replacing starter pull cord on 77 20hp mercury

Remove the starter housing from the top of the motor and see if the spring broke or back wound it's self when the rope broke. If all is well remove the rest of the rope from the spool by feeding it back thru the guide hole the handle rests on. Wind it out and find a hole drilled thru the spool and put a punch thru it to lock the spool in place against the spring pressure. Remove the old cord. If it has a steel hook glued to the anchor end you will need a real mercury part. If it has a knot. your in luck.

Take your new cord and burn one end and roll the cord to a point while it is still molten. Tie your knot and heat it till it is cooked so it won't untie itself. Feed the pointy end thru the spool and out the front of the housing. Tie a knot it it where the handle would go. Gently feed the rope on to the spool when you remove the punch.

You will have more rope than the spring could wind. so untie the end knot and feed it back to the spool and put the cord in the notch of the spool so it won't rub on the housing and wind a few more turns into the spring .

When it has enough pressure to completely wind the cord up. put the punch back in the lock hole and feed the cord out the hole thru the handle and knot it, then cook that knot as well.

Rope broke

Starter rope is sold at home centers like Lowes and Homedepot. It is important to buy the same thickness of rope so that an ample amount will fit into rewind spool(starter rope is sold by size from 3.5 to 6.5) . Remove the starter cover /fan cover if the starter is riveted to fan cover (or just remove the pull rewind if bolted on). With cover removed, notice how the rope enters thru bushing and ties onto spool. Visualize in which direction the spool turns when you pull the rope. This is the direction that you will be winding the spool. Fish out the old rope and wind the spool in the direction mentioned above. The spool will get tighter as you wind. When the spool will not wind another turn, back-off one turn and align hole in spool to bushing on cover. Insert rope thru bushing into hole and tie knot (any knot that will not obstruct motor parts). At this point allow the rewind to take-in the rope to stop at handle. Test your work. The rope will break if you try to start the washer under load. Press trigger on wand to release pressure. Also the rope is stressed when the operator has a very long strong arm and pulls out the rope to bottom out at the knot. Good luck with your repair

How many knots in 1 degree?

Knot is a unit of velocity equal to one nautical mile per hour, degree is an angular measure. There is no conversion between them.

One degree of longitude at the equator is approximately sixty nautical miles, but one still can't convert a distance to a velocity without knowing the time it takes to cover that distance.

Normally purple/blue on the radiants indicates low gas pressure, could also be dust slowing gas velocity into burner and/or an aeration problem. Get it checked out properly.
