How to tell if your solenoid is back

Riding lawn will not start the battery is charged but it only clicks could it be the solenoid ?

Probably. Try jumping across the two post. If that turns over your engine, replace the solenoid. Or, another way to check it is to disconnect the wire on your starter, hook a test light to it and turn your key to start. If the test light does not light up, the solenoid is bad. Remember to hold the clutch/brake pedal down when you turn key to start.

What possible reasons would toro 16 44 hxl not start.


If you jumper across the two main solenoid terminals and it starts then replace the solenoid; otherwise it could be the starter.

check battery to see if it's charged and if it is be very careful and jump the solenoid and it start's when you jump the solenoid then it need's to be replaced.

Sounds like the starter or the starter solenoid is bad.

Mower won't start. Makes clicking noise.


Check the battery terminal connections for cleanliness and that they are free of corrosion. If the contact is corroded, this is what the clicking would be from.
The battery could be charged, but if the connection is dirty, the power won't be able to engage the solenoid properly.

Murray riding lawn mower


with switch off try crossing out the solenoid. take an old screwdriver and place it on the two metal contacts jetting out from the solenoid usually by the battery or close to the ignition. if strarter engages when this is donr replace solenoid. if not replace starter. hope this helps.
