I replaced the cartridge before the ink ran out with a fresh cartridge right out of the box -- so I KNOW the cartridge is full. I'm also aware that means the printheads need to be cleaned. Unfortunately set-up seems to be locked onto the replace the cartridge message. How do I get beyond this in set-up so I CAN clean the heads?

Put new cartridges in and it keeps telling me to replace one particular cartridge. ALL the cartridges replaced are new and full. I can't get past that error on the screen to go/or do anything else. What can be done?

Please go to my website . I have the latest version of SSC Service Utility to download directly onto your computer and instructions on how to use it, what to click on etc etc. Click any of the Epson links if you can't find it, everything you need to know will be there, including printer Firmware resetting which sorts out a multitude of problems.

The 'maintenance required' problem with Epson printers has absolutely nothing to do with which cartridges you are using, it is a built in page counter in your printer firmware, which has a different maximum amount for each Epson model. Don't listen to old wives tales and heresay, we are the experts and it's an Epson scam to cause a lot of people to pay for maintenance or throw their printers away.
I haven't found a model that can't be reset with the latest version of SSC Serve or the manual reset on my site.

For Epson RX500 users there is also a manual reset on my site, as the SSC Serve software won't do it for you.
When using the program & choosing your printer from the list, it may have a weird name with 'x' in the model number, this is because some configurations are for many models in a series. For example, the C46 will be listed as C4x as it is for the C42, C44 & C46 models.

I hope this helps all Epson users to overcome the Epson scam of page counting and locking out until you pay their dealers money for maintenance.

If you like what I've done for Epson users, please show your appreciation by spreading the word and perhaps buying your ink from my site.

Happy trouble free printing

There are 3 things that could be wrong with it,

1)your new cartridges need there chips reset

2)your printer carrage assy needs cleaning

3)you have cloged printheads now true this happens very rarly that the print heads will give this error, but it does happen.

the utility works great are resetting the cartridges, but itf the error does not change after that then the problem is the printheads.

Epson ink cartridges, always empty?

Epson has gone to great pains to ensure that third-party cartridges dont work. They really did a good job. Sometimes their printers wont even recognize genuine Epson cartridges. I saw a CX8400 with a brand new cartridge claim it was out of cyan ink after printing one 4 x 6 photo. Then it would recognize any cyan cartridge. It had to go back to Epson for replacement. We changed all the cartridges and the printer worked. one day later it says the ink needs replacing. they are all full.

This is a problem with Epson cartridges, especially if you bought re-filled or remanufactured cartridges. Each cartridge has a chip on it which basically guesses how much ink is being used and when it thinks it is empty it signals to the printer that it needs to be replaced. The cartridge may be full of ink but it will not work. Worse still, it only requires one cartridge to say it is empty and the printer will refuse to print anything. Other manufacturers such as HP will indicate that a cartridge needs to be replaced but will give you the option to print regardless.
My advice is not to waste money on more epson cartriges and buy an alternative manufacturer's printer.

Epson CX3900 says all cartridges empty but not true

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges?

ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Epson Cartridges. !!!!!!!!

Also go thru the utility to change cartridges. This will make the chip know that you have all new cartridges and will move the ink station in place.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.

These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

Thanks and Good Luck :0)

I have just changed all the ink's in an Epson d120

If you replaced with "genuine" ink-cartridges, then it should report "full".

If you replaced with "refilled" ink-cartridges, then the company that refilled forgot to "reset" the electronics inside the ink-cartridge, in order to report "full".

Or, perhaps, the software "toolbox" that came with the printer has a button "I have installed new cartridges, please re-verify the ink-levels" ??? Click that button.

Epson Stylus sx100 print cartridges. Compatibility

The chip on some of the compatible cartridges is not always reset and can show this sort of problem. Buy a chip re-setter (pretty cheap) and hopefully then they will work.

Epson R380

Turn on the printer. The printer head will start to move to the left; immediately pull out the power cable from the back of the printer. You can now move the print head to the cartridge exchange position by hand. Change the cartridge(s) and close the cartridge cover. Re-insert the power cable, turn the printer back on and it should work OK.

Epson RX420 new black ink cartridges displaying empty

Normal 0 Could have a corrupt driver.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Epson Stylus DX8400 empty ink cartridges but actually new

Sometimes there is a coating on the chips (even original epson ones!) - Old wives tales say dont touch the chips with your fingers - but take the carts out one by one and wipe your finger over the chips (1 finger for one chip - dont reuse the same finger on a different chip)

Reinstall them and that worked for me on a dx4500 with original epson carts in

Epson photo r200

Sadly, if only one cartridge is empty, an Epson printer won't print. But, you can bypass that by using a chip re-setter. They have them in refill stores. By using a chip re-setter, you assign a new serial number to your cartridge, thus "fooling" the printer you have put a new cartridge in. Then, you don't need to refill all the cartridges.
