Had a X75 that worked o.k for 4 years and then finally gave up the ghost. Had lots of cartridges and the x1270 was on offer at the time and just so happens uses the same carts. Bought the printer but no USB cable as this was £10 extra(what a fiddle!). USB cable was connected to a 4 port USB 2.0 powered HUB and has only one other device on it and as I say the X75 worked fine on it. Uninstalled Lexmark software already on system and then installed new printer, no problem, test page printed off o.k. First doc o.k from Word but then I get communication problem. Tried all the FAQs and help on lexmark's own site but I only managed to get one print off before it fails again worth Comm problem. Tried different ports and the only thing I can think of is that i should have bought the USB cable, what do you think.

My lexmark 1200 all-in-one printer sometimes won't print all i do is re-install it and that usually fixes the problem. maybe that would work for all the other problems

If you computer has more than three devices using USB connections, it may be taxing the power supplied in parallel to these devices. Try removing a few of these devices and restarting your computer. If the printer starts working, purchase a POWERED USB hub and divide the load. Also windows vista will self install you printer. Most devices will add a warning sheet stating that their drivers must be installed before plugging in the printer. If you plug in the printer first and power up the computer, Windows will go through the process of assigning one of it's drivers and tell you it is ready to go. In this case, you will have to uninstall the driver and follow the printer makers instructions.

This is from the Lexmark Support page:

Attention Windows Vista Users
If you have installed your printer on your PC using an original Lexmark Driver CD that came with your product and you are experiencing problems when printing, you may have installed the Windows XP driver.

Follow these steps to resolve:
· Disconnect your USB cable from your printer.
· Uninstall all Lexmark printer drivers on your PC.
· Download the correct Vista driver for your model. (From Lexmark Support)
· Install the driver on your PC.

Important - Do not reconnect the USB cable until the install software prompts the question of how the printer is connected.

Ckeck in control panel & se if the driver software installed. It should be listed in Add/remove programs. If it is, power up the piinter & load windows Vista update service. See if Vista has any patches for you're printer. If no, goto Lexmark & go to the driver section for you're P4350 printer software for Vista. While in Vista update, install any updates listed.
Click on the link provided.

Creat a folder on you're desktop & down load the latest driver software in-to the folder you created. Uninstall any Lexmark software that might have been in add/remove programs. Install the driver software you downloaded. If all this still fails, call Lexmark since this is a new printer. The number should be in you're manul. Or you can go here for free support.

Installing Lexmark 1200 series

Have you downloaded a "driver" for the printer. If not, search for "Lexmark 1200" free driver downloads. Or go to "control panel" and click on "add new hardware" and follow the onscreen instructions. Try this first and if not work, then do the search.

Communication problem with notebook/printer

You've encountered 1 of the many issues with Vista. The OS is so gargantuan that Microsoft had to ax many of the drivers that were included with XP.

http://www.lexmark.com/lexmark/sequentialem/home/0,6959,204816596_1019285789_0_en,00.html

Copy & paste the above URL into your web browser & that will take you right to the driver download page. Select the red highlighted "Driver Download" for the 1200 series printers. This will send you to the Operating System selection page. Once selected you'll see the red highlighted .exe file. Select "download now". You should see a pop-up asking you to save the file. I like to send downloads to the desktop to facilitate installation of the software. You can later drag & drop it into whatever folder you like.

Make sure to remove the XP drivers before installing the Vista drivers. Also remember to unplug the USB cable from the printer prior to installing the Vista drivers. The installation software will prompt you when to re-install the USB cable.

Good luck.

Computer will not communicate with printer

I had this same problem...drove me crazy for a week. Called the geek squad at Best Buy and they mentioned something about a"patch" (which I had no idea what that meant) on the website of the printer. I went to Lexmark website, and selected 1200 series and windows vista (which is what's installed on my computer) A page came up to install a driver that made the two compatible and it worked!!!
