A car radio needs two sources of power. A little bit of 12 volt all the time and more power when you want to hear the music. Also known as battery(all the time) and ignition (when the "power" is on). It might be a bad connection on battery power or it wasn't connected right. Battery power is needed to keep the presets and the clock setting.

How do you set stations and clock

1.Select the radio band and tune in a desired radio station you wish to store in the preset memory.
2 .Press and hold any one of the Preset buttons (1 through 6) for at least 2 seconds until the station frequency on the display blinks.
3. Press the Preset button into which you wish to store the station while the frequency display is blinking (within 5 seconds). The display stops blinking once the station has been memorized. The display shows the band, preset No. with a triangle (9) and station frequency memorized

Alpine 4714S - (1) Radio stations won't stay set. (2) Can't set clock

In my experience with aftermarket installs, the unit has to be powered from a source that is always active. Example: the wipers, or blinkers or power windows won't work when the key is off. Your Alpine might be connected to a power source that doesn't send power until the car is on and running. Hence it won't store your radio stations or keep correct time. Check to see how the power for the Alpine is tied into your car.

Speakers dont work with CD, but work with radio.

I just had this problem with my e34 bimmer, just connect the blue wire to with the red wire (apparently the 9887 shuts off the antenna when the radio is off). so in my case, bmw thought it was a good idea to wire the two together, which means you go to CD and the Deck shuts off the amp, killing the speakers.

Trying to set the radio stations on Alpine stereo

The radio either does not have the yellow power wire connected(constant 12v) or the wire is connected to a switched source and when the key is turned off the radio has no backup power. You will need to pull the radio out and verify the yellow wire is not connected to switched voltage and connected to constant power. It is also possible that they have the red and yellow wires mixed up. Remember yellow constant power and red is switched power(with ignition key). And also disconnect your negative battery cable when working on the electrical system of your vehicle...you may short something out and damage your vehicle's electrical system or head unit.
