My little sister stepped on the screen and cracked it horribly, so i tried hooking up a DIFFERENT monitor (which was fairly new) i turned it on, and it WORKED! but only up to the WINDOWS XP start up screen and the blue screen that tells you its checking "disk C" once its done counting to 100, the monitor shuts off, and in the middle a blue box pops up saying "POWER SAVING" and thats ALL it will let me do. Please help. thanks.

no, whats happining when i turn on my laptop is the cracked screen and the monitor both turn on, then when i push that button, the screen attached to my laptop turns off, an the monitor is stays on, showing me the windows start up, and system check, once that finishes than, the monitor swiches to "power saving" mode, an turns off, my screen turns back on and just stays lit. but its so cracked up that theres nothing even visible in it.
If you dig around in google shopping, you can find replacement LCD's. Something similar like this maybe -> http://cgi.ebay.com/Acer-Aspire-3000-15-4-WXGA-LCD-Screen-Glossy-Grade-A_W0QQitemZ160233528611QQcmdZViewItem

It has got to change and stay there by using the Fn F4 key or similar. I know because I am doing the same. If the laptop comes on again continue pressing those keys until you get what you want and if it goes into power mode then change it in the control panel.
