Ceramic links break VERY VERY Easily!!! Take your watch to a reputable watch repair shop and have them adjust your watch band! :-)

Have you thought of changing the band to a leather one?
This would allow you to make holes in the best place to give the correct length for you.
Alternatively you might be able to get an expanding metal type which would solve the problem. This type can also be adjusted for length.

Turn the watch on it's side and you will notice small pins or screws holding the links together. You will need to push these out of the links that you want to remove. A special tool is needed to do this or you may bend or break the small screws. Click on this link below to see pictures and view diagrams that show how to remove these links:
