Youve probably got a router/modem that can only serve one computer at a time

It says it cant connect to xbox live even though i have a ethernet cable hooked up to my lab top running to the back of my xbox 360.

Depending upon your Internet setup connecting your XBox cannot give you Internet access to XBox Live.
For a least complicated method, you need to connect the XBox to a DSL or cable modem that has Internet connection via your Internet Service Provider.

How is your laptop connected to the Internet?
This information would assist me to help you.

I just bought an xbox i got wireless adaptor, how come i cant sign up for online it says ''cant cannect xbox live select test connection to trouble shoot your connection''

(These instructions are vague because they are from memory, so sorry if they are not very clear)
Go to Console Settings, then go to Network Settings, then click A on the first thing that comes up, continue clicking A until it returns you to network settings. Then try to connect to Xbox Live again, if you still can't connect, then the xbox 360 console is not close enough to your internet source, or you don't have a wireless internet connection.

Hope this helps!

Basically i know its a rip off but if u wanna use wireless with the xbox 360 u need to buy the official xbox 360 wireless router which is about £60.There is another way if u dont use wireless u can connect the xbox 360 to a router or the phone line then go to your windows firewall and set it up manually.Hope this can help you .Joe stevenson
