If your dryer doesn't work at all, it could be because of problems with:

Power from the house
Door switch
Thermal fuse
Power from the houseCheck to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it pluggedin? If you plug something else into the outlet, does it work? If not, check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker.

Door switchIf the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryerwon't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch isinside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you needto raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch.

Thermal fuseOn many dryers, there's a thermal fuse (a heat-sensitive fuse thatblows if the dryer overheats) mounted to the exhaust duct inside theback cover panel. The fuse is about an inch long. It's usually embeddedin black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing.

Ifthe fuse has blown, it has no continuity. When this happens, your dryereither just stops heating, or it doesn't work at all. Be sure toinspect the venting/heating system before replacing the fuse to put thedryer back into operation. (You can't re-set this type of fuse.)

WiringOften the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, burnsand the connection breaks. In this has happened to your dryer, you needto replace the power cord and the terminal block inside the dryer towhich the wire is attached.

belt around the drum is broken. The light you see is the glow of the
heating element. No air flow will cause heater to get red hot. Danger!

    or check the test below.....

Check the breakers, then the wiring from the receptacle, the plug and
then the wiring to the back of the dryer. If not there, then take the
top off and look for the thermal fuse. Bypass it and see if it comes
on. If so, replace it and you should be on your way.

Is there a reset button on a Maytag electric dryer purchased in 2000? Power is coming into the dryer, pushing the start button has no effect.

check the switch itself ,, you can do this with a meter and checking for continuity when the button is depressed, also check the door safety switch,, it won't run if this switch is defective,, you can check this one the same way , or just locate the connection, and add a jumper wire, to see if the machine starts
