You can buy the chain and cable assembly at any good door opener service company. I doubt you will find aftermarket though.

SOURCE: i had to use the emergency cable to open garage

This usually works:

  1. Close the garage door from the inside, you should be in the garage ;-)
  2. Just pull the cable back, towards the motor until the latch clicks in place. You may need a ladder, and it may not make much of a click, but you can usually do this from the ground.
  3. Now operate the motor and you'll see the shuttle travel towards the latch and connect with a click.
  4. Open the door!

Craftsman 1/2 hp garage door opener cables wound around shaft

Denise, This could be a dangerous job for some one with no knowledge, doors are heavy, cable is under a lot of load from torsion springs. You may have to call a garage door tech, this is not a major fix if you have the knowledge and tools, the Tech. can also diagnose what caused/allowed cable to do this and correct the fault, so it will not happen again. For your safety call a door Tech. or 3 and get an estimate.

GARAGE DOOR WANT CLOSE, USING CLOSER WILL MOVE A LITTLE BUT LIGHT FLASHES, SENSORS SEEM TO BE WORKING

I recommend this to everyone with garage door opener problems:
Use the pull cord and disconnect the opener from the door.
Operate the opener and let the carrier slide back away from the door. Is the carrier moving smoothly when disconnected?
Next, lift the door by hand from the bottom to the top. Is it moving smoothly?
If not, lubricate the hubs of all the rollers on both sides of the door. Check the cable pulleys at the top sides of the door channel, lubricate them as well.
Are all cables in all the pulleys, there are 4.

Motor wont run on craftsman opener

You need to remove the cover and look at the drive gear. It is probably stripped. I really recommend a technician to repair your door.
