I have manual. Its too generic to recommend anything. I have tech manual but there is no trouble shooting section to get started!

How do I get the camera to stop "acting" like it has a memory card inside? Is it a switch?

  • Rod May 18, 2009

Do you think this is caused by some sort of garbage in the slot or do I need to send it for repairs? micro soldering or something I can't do myself?

  • Rod May 18, 2009

Thank you for taking the time to save me a lot of hassle and money!

Its possible that the internal memory is busted. The solution for this is... Buy a memory card, memory cards are cheap nowadays. If using a memory card still doesn't help. You might want to just get yourself a new camera because you probably wouldn't able to find any replacement for the busted memory module or whatever is broken internals from your camera.

That is not a firmware problem, at least firmware causing this is very unusual.

That is a short or a bad solder joint on memory card slot contacts.

If camera says incorrect memory card when no card is inside that is a short, a broken contact usually returns no card on all circumstances.
What usually happens is that pin 3 of SD card reader (I/O) is shorted with ground pin 4, and this let the camera think that a memory card is inside the slot.
See SD card pinout below:

Do not forget to leave feedback.

Many thanks.

Hi,
If camera gives same error on every memory card then its problem of camera. And if error comes with specific memory card then that memory card is bad.
Please check memory card in another camera and test camera with another memory card to narrow down problem like is it camera or card.
Thanks.

    Thanks for reply.
12MB is small memory and can save few photos so people use external memory card to save more and more photos, depends on memory card storage capacity.

Now when external memory card is inserted in camera slot, internal memory disabled at same time because of sensor switch in slot and in case that sensor switch got damaged, internal memory will not activate as system control chip assume that there is memory card in camera slot.

Now if 12MB internal memory got full, camera will not be able to save further photo data. in that situation, upload photos to computer and free that 12MB memory for further photos.

I suggested cross-check camera and memory card, that will ..

Very nice, you rejected me while I was typing info for you.
    good luck.

My Nikon Coolpix L1110 whenever i turn it on with memory card the camera message THIS CARD CANNOT BE USED.. but without the memory it is find and ok.... I put the memory on my laptop and it is working all...

Don't be so quick blaming your camera for everything. :)
Maybe that message means the memory card is either full or nearly full.

When did it start saying that? Did you try another memory card in the camera?

I got message "system error

Having a "System Error" message display on the camera's LCD display generally indicates a problem where the camera will need to come to Nikon for repair. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. Before sending the camera in, check these:
  1. Use the memory card that originally came with the camera (or a Nikon approved card) [/*]
  2. Remove and replace the battery [/*]

How do i upload pictures from my nikon coolpix s1

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

Nikon coolpix 4600.

Hi I found this info on the Nikon Australia website:

"System Error" or "Lens Error" message in LCD monitor trnsp.gif Question My COOLPIX camera displays a "System Error" or "Lens Error" message. What should I do? trnsp.gif Answer Having a "System Error" or "Lens Error" message displayed on the camera's LCD monitor would generally indicate that your camera needs servicing. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
  1. Use the memory card that originally came with your camera (or a Nikon approved card).
  2. Remove and replace the battery.
On the other hand, a Lens Error generally means that an error has occured during the lens operation. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Remove and replace the battery.
  3. Turn on the camera.
If the above tips do not help, your camera must be sent to our Nikon Authorised Service Centres, there are no user serviceable parts in our Nikon COOLPIX cameras. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and we will do everything to repair your Nikon camera as quickly as possible. Click Here for our Nikon Authorised Service Centres details.

Seems you may just have to remove and replace the battery - sort of like a Windows Restart to fix a computer problem! - this would reset your camera's memory.

Hope this helps.

Memory Problem

Get a card reader. Your card will be shown as a drive. Right-click and format. Then put it back into the camera and see if it works. You should get a card reader for about 8$

Nikon S1 memory problem

Just so you know, I have this problem also. Anyway, the only thing that works for me is to turn the camera on WITHOUT the card inserted, then insert the card. After this, it will let me take ONE photo, video, or noise clip before it gives me the error again (strangely enough, I just figured out this solution a couple hours ago as I was browsing a listing for a similarly infected camera on eBay).
For a permanent fix, the "cheap camera repair man" can repair both the menus and the error for 55 bucks on his website (DynamicCamera.com).
