Question about Hitachi 53UDX10B 53" Rear Projection Television
There are two and sometimes three very large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. They are fastened to a large heat sink because they generate a good deal of heat. Finding them is not that hard, but there is supporting electronics that will also need to be replaced during the repair. There will be fusible resistors and feedback resistors that may have been damaged at the same time.
If you choose to repair the set yourself, be very careful of the high voltage that can be stored in the capacitors, and CRT’s. This voltage can be as high as 30,000 volts.
Unless you are very handy with a soldering iron and reading color codes on the resistors. I would recommend that you have a local television service center have a look at it and get an estimate for the repair.
I don’t use the cheapest parts when I repair this circuit, because I have seen the cheap IC’s damaged as soon as power is applied. I would also recommend that when the IC’s are replaced, whoever does it, that they use plenty of heat sink compound and remove the old compound first.
I guess you are wondering how much this repair would cost.
Not knowing the labor rate in your area and diagnostic fees, I can only give you a ball park figure. I have done this repair for between $375 and $450
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
