Hi,

This series always has one of two ways to turn the wireless power on or off. Some have a switch built in to the Wireless light(above keyboard) the rest have a switch built into the leading edge of the laptop near the bottom right hand corner of the mouse buttons.

Should these switches not turn the light blue, either the radio is turned off at the driver level, the driver is malfunctioning or the wireless card is malfunctioning.

Try these two locations, once you find the switch if it doesn't work comment back here if it doesn't turn the wireless on and I can help you diagnose why.

If it does work please rate this solution so other will know it works when they have the same problem.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

How to turn on the wireless card on Sony pcg11211L

If your computer will not connect to a wireless Internet signal, one of the first things to check is whether your computer's wireless switch is turned on.

Many laptop computers have a switch located on the exterior of the computer that controls its ability to connect to wireless networks.

This switch can be accidentally turned off, preventing users from connecting to the Internet.

Determine if your computer's wireless connectivity has been disabled by viewing the network icon in the lower toolbar on your computer's desktop.

When there is a disruption in your computer's Internet connection, the icon will have a red X through it. For further information, go to the computer's Network and Sharing Center where you can troubleshoot connectivity issues and view available wireless networks.

If the computer isn't recognizing any wireless connections (and you're sure that there are wireless signals in your area), the likely problem is that the wireless switch is turned off.

Locate the wireless switch on your computer.

It may be located on either side of the laptop or along the back or front.
If you aren't sure whether your computer has a wireless switch, check the user guide that came with the unit.

Determine whether the switch is currently in the "On" or "Off" position.
The switch will be clearly labeled.

Push the switch in the direction of the "On" position to ensure that it is turned on.
If the switch was already turned on, see if there is a keyboard combination that will activate your laptop's wireless capability.

The key combination for your laptop will depend on your computer's manufacturer, but will generally involve a combination of the Function, Control or Alt and the F1 to F12 keys.

Check your user manual for your computer's key combination.

My Dell Studio 1737 states that it can not connect to wireless internet. I need to enable the wireless connection by a button in the front that I can not find or a combination of functions keys that I also...

Press the Fn key. While keeping it pressed, press F2 key. This combination of keys will turn on the wireless. You can use the same key combination to switch off the wireless also. When the wireless is turned on the wifi light glows to indicate it is on.

Where is the switch or function key combination to turn on wireless connection?

It's difficult to tell, but there seems to be a small switch on the front, that may activate the wireless connection. If that isn't it, you can usually access the modems through control panel, under 'network and internet,' and the wireless assistant, or possibly the network and sharing center; if the wireless modem is disabled, right clicking on the icon will usually give you an option to activate it, or you can connect to a network through the network and sharing center, as well as detecting networks, and that will tell you whether or not the thing is working.

Wireless function key combination

Hi,

Usually on the toshiba it is Fn and F2 or F4 the f key will have a coloured picture of an antenna with waves coming off of it.

Also most toshiba laptops have a physical switch on the edge of the case below the keyboard. Make sure that switch is on first then try the Fn and function key combo as they work together like a two way light switch. Both must be on for the card to be active.

Can not connect to wifi due to wireless switch

I assume you have a laptop or notebook. If you look closely at your keyboard, you'll notice a couple of keys next to the spacebar, usually on both sides, that have something like "Func" printed in blue or another color.
Now, if you look at the rest of the keys on your notebook, you will see that some have two
functions: the desired character key, and another, in the same color as that special
function key.
If you now look at the topmost row of keys, or the 'function" PF keys, it's likely that
they too have a second function, depicted by a small icon in the same color. The icon
you're looking for should look like a radiating antenna, and it may have on it (or elsewhere in the notebook) a small (usually blue) LED that comes on that comes on when WiFi is turned on.
The combo key action you refer to means that you should press the special function key next
to the spacebar first, and then the key that has the icon, to toggle WiFi on or off.
In other cases, there's a recessed button along the edge, either on a corner, or on the sides of the notebook, with a similar icon depicting an antenna of some sort, and it usually has an LED that comes on to indicate WiFi is active.
If all fails, your user's manual is the best source of information to find the key/key combination you need, since not all notebooks/laptops have these keys/buttons in the same place.
Good luck!
