Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Sears side by side refrigerator model # 106.50582001. refrigerator works fine. Freezer keeps getting warm thus defrosting frozen foods, then re-freezes foods again. Freezer temperature control knob is at full cold... Would the adaptive defronstcontrol module be at fault? Is there another part that could be causing this to happen? Please advise Thanks

Yes you are absolutely correct that the defrost control is faulty. you will get the required part at  www.repairclinic.com the cost of the part will be near to $55. but before ordering the new part try this  unplug the unit from main power outlet for complete 48 hours.then clean the melted water from the unit and plug the wire again and adjust the tempature and check out after two hours. because many a times this happens because at the back of the freezer section there is evaporater coils.if the over excess of ice gets collected there then also defrost controller stops working.and this happens. but if unplugging the unit does not helps then you can definately go for the defrost controll part  at repair clinic site. thanks. please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.

FREEZER NOT FREEZING PROPERLY

There could be a large list of things that cause the freezer to warm up from the temperature it was before. The most likely reason is you probably have a defrost problem. Defrost heater, defrost thermostat and the defrost control are all things that may have failed. If your model is not a frost free let me know. Look inside freezer for a layer of frost building on the rear wall. If your refrigerator is not defrosting it will be a short time before the fresh food compartment begins to warm. To extend the time your refrigerator and freezer can keep food safe defrost by placing a bucket of hot water inside the freezer and close the door. Please place food from freezer and fresh food compartment into another refrigerator or cold storage area. By keeping doors shut as much as possible the refrigerator and freezer will last up to a week this way before defrosting again, Sea Breeze

Would like to put older side by side refrigerator in our garage. I was told in the winter, when it gets cold the freezer side will not keep foods frozen. I had an older top freezer refrigerator in the...

It could be a problem depending on how cold your garage gets in the winter. Most refrigerators depend on the compressor turning on to cool the freezer section and that cold air is used to cool the refrigerator section. If your the temperature in your garage gets in the 30-40 degree range in the winter. The compressor may not turn on sufficiently since the refrigerator is typically around the 35-40 degree range. This will cause the freezer to warm up to the fridge temperature and your freezer items will defrost.

Freezer is frozen fridge is warm

Your model is most likely the Profile Artica style. Most times the defrost heater is burned out behind the rear of the freezer wall. Manually defrost and look at the defrost heater to see if burned out. That model possibly has the glass covered defrost heater and will be easy to spot if burned out because the element is inside a glass tube, If you replace the defrost heater also replace the defrost thermostat, Please send me your model number located near floor of the fresh food compartment door seal and kick plate, Thanks Sea Breeze

Fresh side not cooling

I will assume until you can confirm the model number is near Sears KENMORE ELITE, Model No. 10650594000 But I will need you to double check because Sears always uses a number different than the MFG.
For the moment I need you to remove some things from the freezer and remove the back panel covering the evaporator coils. Look for the coils to be frozen over. If so it could be the adaptive defrost control found inside the fresh food compartment part number 4388932
Or a problem with defrost thermostat or the defrost element. I am here to help, Just let me know, Sea Breeze

Freezer and fridge is warm, cold air blowing but freezer is still

Try this, I went to the freezer side pulled the inside back panel (had to defrost it to get it out) and it was completely frozen over. It was not not operating properly because the cooling coils would not allow the fan to pull air through them to cool the refrigerator side. I completely defrosted the coils and turned the refrigerator back on, it worked fine. I then ordered a new adaptive defrost assembly (this is the thing that prevents the ice buildup) since ours was apparently not working properly. I used a fan too speed up the defrost process, because i had to take all the frozen food out and put it in a cooler to get to the back panel. After you take out the racks and food you only need to remove two screws that have a 1/4' head. good luck.

Freezer works but fresh food seems warm

If you have frost on the back wall of the freezer compartment you have a defrost problem. When the freezer coil does not defrost the refrigerator does not get air for cooling.
