Question about Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook

Error code 0146

I have a dell Inspiron 1505 running windows XP. Last year the hard drive went out and had to be replaced because the hard drive was giving error code 0146. The new hard drive worked for about 6 months then would give me problems if I tried to install any windows updates (system restore would bring the system back). I turned the updates off and haven't had any issues. Now the error code is back. I can start the computer and my desktop shows up, but I cannot click on or select any of the icons. I am wondering if I do file a claim for the warranty on the hard drive and get it replaced, could there be something else happening with my comuter that is causing these erros?

Alot of times when Dell replaces a hard drive, its usually one thats been refurbished and NOT brand new. Since you have been definitely been having issues with more then one of there hard drives, defiinitely call them back and have them walk you thru all the steps to verify and the once they verify it tell them because you have had lots of problems with hard drives in that unit to please make sure to ask that a BRAND NEW one is installed instead of a REFURBISHED one.

Hopefully they will do this seeing as how there has been lots of problems. Hope this info helps.

I get an error code 2000-0146 on my dell inspiron 1525 do you know what this is

Hi,

The error code you got after running the Diagnostic test means the Hard drive fails and needs replacement. 2000-0142 and 2000-0146 is a hard drive problem. If you are still covered by the warranty. Just call Dell technical support, provide the error code and they will replace the Hard Drive.

Hope this helps

I have an error code 0146 on my dell laptop that isn't a year old. it should still be under warranty. Should I try and restore the whole system or don't even bother and contact dell and let them fix it?

A 0146 error code is a write error on the hard drive. Normally, this is cause for a hard drive replacement. 800-624-9896 call Dell Tech and get it replaced.

Error code 2000-0146

I had the same problem and came across the following solution that worked for me as well:
Re: windows Vista will not start 18 Aug 2009 07:28PM I was getting a the same error codes and couldn't get Windows to boot up at all. I went to BIOS set up (restart your computer and hit F12 when the BIOS screen comes up), went to onboard devices and changed the SATA Operations from ACHSI (don't know how it got there) to the factory default setting ATA. Then I started up in "repair mode" (which was an option that was coming up when I tried to boot up before but never worked) - it went through a repair check and went to login screen.
Prior to finding this - I tried several things including start up from the Reinstallation disc, but nothing worked. I was ready to buy a new hard drive, but don't have to. Works fine!
Not sure what caused the problem to start with. It is an "Inspiron 1520"

Error Code 2000-0146

I know this is not what you will want to hear, but according to the Dell Support site, error code 2000-0146 indicates: DST Log contains previous error(s). This means that the drive is failing and needs to be replaced. ASAP is best. I would suggest that you backup anything on the current drive that want to move to the new drive. If the computer is under warranty, contact Dell Support and they should ship you a new drive. If there is no warranty remaining, you will need to purchase a similar type of drive. Once you have the new drive, install it and then reinstall your software. It should go more quickly is you can use the recovery CDs that were shipped with the computer originally.

Good luck, and please let me know how it turns out for you.

To solve code error 0146 and 0148

Both of these are hard drive errors. Error 0146 is a failed hard drive or bad drive sector, and 0148 is that thew machine is no longer detecting the hard drive. Basically, your hard drive has failed and will need replaced. Replace the hard drive and you will be set. The best place I've found to buy hard drives is at pricewatch.com, they have the best prices on the market.
