Unit Always Shuts Down While In Use

Hi. I have an Acer Aspire 7720 laptop pc running Windows Vista. All of a sudden, the unit turns completely off by itself while in use. We have checked power settings and have set them to never hibernate or sleep, etc.. yet the unit will completely shut down after a certain amount of time. Sometimes after 10 minutes, sometimes after 2 hours but eventually, it just shuts down. Can anyone please help with this problem? Thank you.

My Acer Aspire 7720-4428 memory slot clips are broken how can they be replaced

They can't. The memory sockets, along with the clips, are integrated onto and soldered to the mainboard of the laptop. The only repair is complete replacement of the mainboard and that would be more costly than replacing the unit with an new one.

Good question.

Does the computer feel hot when it shuts off?

Does it always happen at the same exact time?

Can you try booting the computer into Safe Mode? (What Happens?)

First thing I'd try is uninstalling the video adapter driver under device manager and restart the computer.

Let me know what happens!

Acer Aspire 7720 shut down, no power light, battery and supply check good. Tried the power reset still no power light with AC supply. unit completely dead. Do I stick a fork in this one?

The laptop's AC power jack is probably damaged. All you have to do is put the fork aside :D, unsolder the old power jack and solder the new one in. If you are not good at soldering you can get it done by a qualified professional. Its a 5 minute Job and a pretty inexpensive repair.

Sai.

Acer 7720 will turn on and work for about 5 mins and shut down

In most cases I have found that this problem stems from a bad charger not delivering the proper amount of voltage. Therefore the battery doesn't ever really get a full charge even though the power indicator may say it does. I would get a multi-meter and check the voltage at the charger tip and see if the power is fluctuating. Be careful regardless, a bad power unit may spike and terminate your motherboard.
