Laptop Doesn't Turn On At All

I was using my laptop just yesterday when all of a sudden the screen turned blue and said ' Preparing to Hibernate ' . It was plugged in and charging at the same time. After about two hours or so, I tried to turn it back on but nothing happens. One of the lights [ the light shaped as a Lightening Bolt ] blinks three times then stops when I try to turn it on. I tried to clean it because I had this same issues before but still, nothing. I then tried to take out both the battery and the Power Cord, hold down the power button for about a minute, plug in the Cord, press the power button again and still nothing happens. I'd like to know if it's the battery or the power cord or the laptop in general.
Please help. It would be very appreciated.

Yes, I got the battery out. I also tried to turn it on without the battery in it, just the power cord plugged it. The only difference is that the light does not blink.

I don't think my laptop is in Hibernation since it does not turn on at all. It's just that one ' Lightning Bolt ' light blinks and that's it. With the power cord plugged it and the battery in, it blinks. But without the battery, the light does not blink at all.

To take out of hibernation, press the power button for less than 1 second.
Then go into the control panel and disable hibernation as described below.

Disable the your mouse's "ability to wake up computer" in device manager.
Use keyboard to wake up your computer.

Click Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Power Options > Hibernate tab.
Then clear the Enable Hibernation check box.

If this doesn't resolve the issue,Please post back.

Please rate this a fixya.

Same thing happened to my daughter's Dell laptop. She needed a new power cord (including the little black box).

Though, you will want to check and see if where it plugs in to your laptop is not damaged or blocked (tape, dirt?) first.

My Acer One Aspire is stuck in hibernate. After it updated itself and said it was preparing to shut down, it was stuck in the preparing for shut down mode for hours. When I let the battery run down to turn...

This solution may sound stupid, but it is affective. Try to press really long time (about 1-2 minutes) on the power button of the laptop. wait for it to shut down completely. Then turn it on to see what happens.

What may have caused this is an update of any sort.

My laptop just says preparing to hibernate how do i clear it

To "hibernate" means to write the contents of the RAM to the disk-drive, and then to turn the computer off.

It should only take 15 to 30 seconds to do so.

If it is not completing, it is safe to hold the ON/OFF button down,
until the computer turns itself off.

My laptop does not fully hibernate!

Unfortunately , hibernation issues are tough to pin down.

See this link

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907477

Basically says , meh could be anything.

One thing you can do to narrow it down is to go to Start > My Computer > RIGHT click on My Computer > click Manage > expand Event Viewer > Click on Applications and see if you have any Red ! around the time it was supposed to be hibernating.

If you see a message like "application hang" you can try uninstalling and reinstalling that particular app.

An easier way is to use a program called smart shutdown.

http://lifehacker.com/5046541/smart-shutdown-offers-more-ways-to-turn-off-your-pc

This program will kill any unresponsive programs and keep trying to hibernate until successful.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
