Just a note, if water is cold, there is an Automatic "Stays Off" mode when water temperature is cold. Chlorine won't be generated with cold water. Can't remember what "Number" that is, but unit will not turn on with cold water.

I would suggest that you keep your salt level around 2,5 for chlorination, however to get the green pool sorted your pool needs to be shocked and would recommenced to get your pool's free chlorine level at least up to around 5 in order to shock the pool as normal free chlorine level should be 3
You will want to take a look at the tablets you just used. I have personally never seen Chlorine tablets that were not all white. I would quit using that brand of tablet and go back to the all white chlorine tablets. You may need to flush the chlorinator of the old tablets in order to get you system cleaned up and working normally.

I could be wrong, but you do have a chemical problem. Be it PH or chlor. After 35 years in the business I have seen one heat exchanger that came from the factory bad, and none that wore out with out chemical help. If you don't have a PH problem then you have a chlor problem. This is most often at an inline chlorinator that is mounted to close to the heater and lets chlor gas back up into the heater when off or in front of the heater so all the feed is going straight to the heater. This is the more lodgical of the two as fast as your wearing the exchangers out. Green plaster is a big simpton of this as the copper from the heater has to go somewhere. This can be fixed as easy as a chloriene floater or replumb to move chlorinator. Good luck
