Hi Nick Buren, I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? Did you attempt to drain the static charge from the mother board by holding down the 0 button for 60 seconds without the battery? Just in case you haven't try it this works in at least 90 percent of the issues i face daily. After holding down the 0 button for 1 minute plug in the laptop with out the battery again and press the power button.

Try just using the mains power. Remove battery an leave plugged in . If it works it's the battery/ power brick .

SOURCE: my acer aspire 5741 battery charge keeps dropping

One of the things is usage does drop the scale each time you use the battery without having the power supply unit plugged in. This is common for it to drop. The thing to worry about is if it does not charge back up to 100% at all. The ideal way to not ruin a battery is to let it go completely down to about 10% then charge it to 100% and go that route always charging will over time decrease battery life. So there is nothing that you are doing wrong or the battery going bad not at all this is normal. It will discharge normally without any usage especially over a two week period of time not being charged and just sitting there. John
