SOURCE: sticky clutch older pfaff 7570

To fix this yourself you need to remove the handwheel screw and cover. Warning: the mechanism may explode and only an experienced technician can help you put it back together.

Ready?

1. Remove with a small screwdriver or any small prying instrument the small cover on the middle of the handwheel (it is about the size of a quarter). You will see a silver phillips head screw that is really wide for its size.
2. With a phillips screwdriver remove the screw you see, do not let plastic part underneath move, hold it in so only the screw and washer are removed. (There is a fiber washer underneath that may stick to is or stay behind, remove it with the screw.) It will take a little effort to break it loose and you need to hold onto the handwheel or block the needle bar with something. (remove the needle and place a piece of wood or a book or anything that is about 1" tall under the needle bar and turn the handwheel in the sewing direction until motion stops).
3. Tricky part: You have now removed the screw and washer and hopefully nothing else has come out or sprung across the room. Gengly pull the entire handwheel assembly away from the machine only a fraction of an inch. Pull on the outer part of the handwheel NOT! the inner part (see above re: springs landing on the other side of the room). You are looking at the upper shaft in the center of the assembly, apply a couple of drops of oil to the interface between the plastic handwheel and the shaft (tri-flow is best, but any light weight oil will do, even WD40 if you can stand the smell).
4. Reset the assembly and install the screw/washer/cover.
5. You may still need to block the needle bar and run the machine to work in the oil.

Notes: If you have not have your machine serviced in awhile this may be red flag telling you that it is time. I have worked on Pfaffs for 10 yrs. they are awsome machines but need a little tlc now and then to perform to maximum

Have fun!

SOURCE: can't tighten clutch on Kenmore zig zag sewing machine.

The clutch has fallen off the shaft. Remove the very small screw in the clutch release screw to remove the clutch release. Place the clutch(round thing with ears on it) back on the shaft with the center ears pointing towards the outside. Put the clutch release screw back on. Tighten it to make sure it works
properly. Put the small screw back in the clutch release screw and test it again. If it will not tighten or release properly, remove the clutch ,rotate it180 degrees and try it again. This should solve your problem.

SOURCE: Bobbin winder will not spin on sewing machine

If you take the top off you will see a tiny rubber tire that engages the winder to the handwheel. Over time they get really soft are really hard and disintgrate. If you have a local sewing shop take the old one in and get a new one to slip on it takes only a few minutes and cost usually less that $2.00

Usually when you pull the clutch knob out it disengages the sewing machine needle shaft. At least, that is how my 2 Kenmore's work. You can always take your machine into Sears sewing department and ask the sewing machine salespeople for help, they are really helpful in my area and more than happy to help you for free. Good luck

Be sure the bobbin switch is engaged when you disengage the clutch. Are the feed dogs raised or did they get lowered by accident? You may have a broken belt or a stretched out one which will have to be replaced. That's why nothing is moving.

The machine won't sew. the motor runs, but the stitches won't form. I have put the clutch in

If the needle is not going up and down the belt may be slipping or even come off, disengage the stop motion and see if the balance wheel turns as if to wind a bobbin, if it does then something must be jammed in the bobbin case area.

Kenmore by sears model 1581457180 need a manual or a how to thread the bobbin

hi there,
on my manual 1581 kenmore show figure on how you thread your bobbins and upper thread.
to thread bobbin insert the thread on one hole of winder holding thread and rotate thread on counter clockwise rotation several times, loop the thread on tension thread and insert bobbins winder on winder shaftat top of your sewing machine push the latch to lock bobbin winder
pull the handwheel to disengage the clutch and to move the winder free rotation.
press the foot pedal to run your winder and thread your bobbins be sure on counterclock wise rotation.
if winder is full of thread this will automatically disengage the shafting winder from clutch.

Bobbin clutch just spins

Clutch is disengaged only for winding thread onto the bobbin.

When done, re-engage (tighten) clutch and with bobbin in bobbin case, hold needle thread, rotate handwheel until needle is top centre of it's motion then pull threads thru allowing approx 100mm (4") slack .....you are ready to sew.

If this isn't what you were asking, then I'm not sure why you have disengaged the clutch, so more detail please.
