Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Trying to take picture but it keep reading memory card is locked out. How to fix that problem?

We are assuming your camera uses a SD card.
26115945-215p5zdesqcnn1v3z4kj5yyc-4-0.png Check the switch and place it in un-lock position to write.
If this does not solve your problem, you can attempt this memory on another device and verify it works ok.
In a rare case, the SD card (also sd micro card) can be defective and cannot be repaired.

I have a DMC-FS42 and the memory card is locked how do I unlock it Thank you!

The memory card may be physically locked. If you remove the memory card from the camera look at the side of the card. There is a small lock that can be slid up and down on the side of the card. Make sure the lock is off. If you cannot tell which direction is locked switch it and then try it in the camera.

If you have pictures on the card try to download them with a card reader first then attempt to format the card in the camera by going into the camera menu.

Hi due to so many questions asked about this here it is. How to deal with memory card locked/write protected error.

kilgourt.gif

SOLUTION 1 - Unlock the memory card.

There is a Lock switch on the left side of the SD card. Make sure the Lock switch is slid up (unlock position). You will not be able to modify or delete the contents on the memory card if it is locked.

SOLUTION 2 - Toggle the lock switch.

If the lock switch is not on lock:
1. Slide the switch up and down. Repeat this 3 times.
2. Let it stay on the Lock position for 30 seconds.
3. Slide the switch up to unlock the card.
4. Try to transfer files into the device.

For non-SD cards: Format the card

The data on the memory card may be corrupted.

WARNING: Formatting will delete all the files in the device. Backup all your data before formatting.

you should try some photo recovery software, here are some programs you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.

Photo Recovery Software (for Windows)
Mac Photo Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)

Note: Before your pictures are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the camera memory card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

Pull your sd card out of the camera... there may be a lock tab along the left side of the card (label facing you and metal tabs up) the lock position is labeled... you can change it with your fingernail... make sure it's unlocked...

Locked memory card

Hey there ccmm1009, if you look on the side of the memory card, you should see a small brightly colored little tab. It should also have a small arrow with "lock" written next to it. Simply move it to the unlock position, and you are good to go. If this does not solve it, please respond with your exact model name and #, and I will attempt to help you further. Good Luck!
