Could be tactile switch contacts on keypad are contaminated eg by spillage etc, or keypad encoder or data cable has 'crept' a bit loose...

Replacing faceplate on VSI controller

VSI - Replacement of
Keypad
1. Using a scalpel or similar tool, peel off the
existing Keypad.
2. Carefully clean the area to which the new
Keypad will adhere, ensuring no internal contamination of the unit. An
alcohol-based cleaner is recommended for this.
3. Carefully fit the new Keypad, ensuring the
pads of the keys are not touched and remain clear of any contamination.
4. Test the VSI to ensure all functions operate
correctly.

2600 keypad solution

If you are experiencing a keypad issue or other keys are not working. I would suggest to buy a new keypad because the old keypad might not able to reach the mother anymore. By replacing it a new keypad everything will just work fine.
Thanks.

5 keys are not working ( I J K M ,) on a emachines eME442 laptop

Dear Friend,
you have to disassemble your laptop for this

1 To disassemble carefully remove the keys with a small screwdriver and place in a container. DO NOT use excessive force. Remove all the keys and place in a separate container.

2 Clean the keyboard with cotton swabs lightly dampened (moisturized) with water. Replace these often and be sure they are only slightly damp. If they are too wet the excess water will contaminate the keyboard. Start cleaning. This will clean all water soluble contaminants like Coca-Cola, coffee, and sugar residue. You must clean each and every key space, inside and out, this is critical since this is where the key touches and moves.

Now wipe out full keyboard with paper napkins and then place your laptop in sunlight (3-5 minutes depens on sun) to absorbe the moisture left on the keys or keyboard.

Now assemble your keyboard again as it is earlier. (QWERTY format : for that click a photograph and copy it to your desktop so that it will not be a problem when assembling)

Thank you

GE JBP90 Electric Range - keypad not working

Hi-  If everything worked when stored, problem could be simple. The keypad is linked to the computer with a ribbon connector. The plug may have gotten corroded a bit in storage. Try this first: Unplug power. Remove back panel to access control. Remove four screws holding control. Unplug and inspect connector. Clean with a toothbrush and compressed air if you have it. Plug connector back in, re-assemble, and see if touchpad works.  Let me know if this info helps.  Have more if needed. - Ed

I have a RadioShack Pro-39 200 channel some keys don't work

I couldn't locate a manual per se, but this link will take you all the parts of one:

http://support.radioshack.com/support_electronics/8992.htm

Regarding the keys not working, it's probably due to a "grunge" buildup that's happened over the years. Once the water, soda, dust, and food particles are gone the keyboard should work fine. Open the scanner case and you'll find a rubber/latex pad that sits below the front panel. Remove it and wipe both sides clean with a damp cloth (soap and water are ok if the buildup is really nasty. Wipe the face of the circuit board below the pad to remove any buildup. Dry everything thoroughly then put it back together.

Spilt coffee on calculator and now the divide sign doesnt work

Remove the batteries and then you can attempt to clean the key button by spraying it with electronic contact cleaner. However, be very careful to only use a small amount to get around and under the key, as the contact cleaner could damage the key material.

If possible, you should try to disassemble the shell and clean off the keypad with a damp towel (water only) so as not to remove the conductive pads on the underside of the keypad button.

You can also try to use a slightly dampened cloth to get the contamination under the keypad, without disasembling the calculator, but you'll have to wait for a good 24 hours before putting the batteries back in to see if it worked. You really don't want any water residue in there to cause more problems, hence the reason I usually disassemble things and use a contact cleaner to tackle the problem.

Allow the pad to dry before reassembling and you should be back in working order.

You can get the contact cleaner at any RadioShack store.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

At times some butons don't work

You may have a bad keypad, which in many cases can be replaced.

A bad keypad may be worn out due to age, damaged, or it may have gotten wet or otherwise contaminated.

Moisture and contamination can be caused by not using the fan when boiling on the stove top (for over the range models), direct spraying of cleaners, by storing the microwave in an unheated garage or shed, or infestation.

I warn my customers to never spray cleaner directly onto the microwave keypad, since the liquid can get inside and "lock up" or even ruin the keypad or controller.

Microwave Keypad not working

This model does have a child lock. If it's on, the display will say "LOCKED". It is turned on and off by holding dfown the "0" key for 4-5 seconds. You may also have a bad keypad, which in many cases can be replaced. A bad keypad may be worn out due to age, damaged, or it may have gotten wet or otherwise contaminated. Moisture and contamination can be caused by spraying of cleaners, by storing the microwave in an unheated garage or shed, or infestation. I warn my customers to never spray cleaner directly onto the microwave keypad, since the liquid can get inside and "lock up" or even ruin the keypad or controller. Apply an alcohol-based cleaner (such as the purple kind) to a cloth (paper towels can scratch) and gently wipe it off. I suggest to my customers that they NEVER use any ammonia-based cleaner (like the blue stuff) on a microwave, since the ammonia will crack and distort polycarbonate plastics. Repost if you need more help.
