Is the operating system Windows 7? How far does the laptop get when booting, do you see the 'Starting Windows' screen, do you get to the login screen?
The most drastic solution is to reinstall the laptop. The recovery partition can be reached by pressing F9 at boot time, you can do a reinstall of the default operating system, ONLY do this if you have your data on the laptop backed up FIRST. The most easy way is to buy a notebook cooler stand. If it's overheating again you must open the case and clean cpu cooler and put some thermoconductor paste on cpu and graphic card.
fix it using ur win xp installer when boot you will given option press r to repair then press when promt type c. then type chkdsk /p..wait after complete then type exit.
