Question about Jura Capresso Impressa S90 Espresso Machine

1 Answer

Jura Impressa xs 90 error code 5

We bought this new and have used it for less than 6 months - ~1100 cups made - now has Error 5 displayed and does not work - luckily we got a two for one deal from the dealer so we have a F60 to use until the problem is corrected; however, I was not expecting to have any problems for this high priced machine from Switzerland - We use Reverse Osmosis water so the hardness is zero and use the Crystal filter and clean as indicated with tablets.

This should be under warranty; however, I would like to have a service manual to be able to be self sufficient.

I do not use distilled water, just RO filtered water - the hardness is negligable - can't measure with test strips supplied by Jura.

I also use the Jura supplied Clarity filter -

There has been no problem with the water supply level sensor; however, I will keep your input in mind - any idea on the Error 5 diagnostic?

I believe it has something to do with temperature - the unit has two water heaters according to the specs - one for steam, one for brew water.

Look forward to feedback, thank you in advance.

Many espresso machine manufactures advise against the use of Reverse Osmosis or Distilled water in their espresso machine, because it is difficult for the level probe to read the water(lack of minerals make for a bad conductor), and distilled water is actually an acid it leaches minerals from your boiler. You might consider just using regular filtered water instead.

The Error 5 indicates that the machine has been too cold. This can be from transportation or if the machine has been exposed for cold temperature for some time. If that is so, keep the machine in a warm place a few hours and then try again.

If this doesn`t help, it can be that the thermofuse or the sensor on the thermoblock is broken, Then this has to be changed by a technician.

My Capresso s8's display is blinking and making strange noise

All Jura machines in the series C, E, F, J, S & Z models have the same problem. The Jura recommended maintenance is insufficient or erroneous:
1- When new machine is set up, the owners click OK for use of Filter cartridges. This helps only to display reminders for replacing the filter.
2- The instruction also advises, regular use of Filters, eliminates descaling the machine. That is not accurate. Reminders for descaling are delayed or eliminated. This allows accumulation of Calcium deposits in the entire hydraulic and coffee system.
3- Cleaning tables recommended & sold by Jura do not remove Calcium deposits in the coffee/water passages. The automatic descaling method recommended by Jura also leaves the coffee side of the machine unclean. The error message in your machine is due to Calcium deposits in the Brew group, coffee outlet & the faucet dispensing coffee in the cup. I suggest all Jura machine owners should manually descale machine. Manually descaling includes use of 6 to 10 rinse cycles with descaling solution in the water tank. The error message "Clean Machine" is accurate & pointing to descaling the Brew group, coffee outlet tube and coffee dispensing faucet by using rinse cycles.

After the rinse cycles are complete, refill Descaling solution & continue descaling the rest of the machine using hot water dispensing function, until the tank is empty. Finally, give a final flushing of machine to flush out remaining descaling solution inside the machine.

What is error 5 on my impressa j9

Error 5 is pointing to heating problem. Here are the parts that may be malfunctioning:
1- Thermal sensor not registering heating. Replace it.
2- Heater not heating up. Check continuity on heating element. If there is no continuity, (This is rare). Replace heater (Thermo block).
The problem can be linked to:
1- Missed descaling of machine for extended period.
2- Use of automatic descaling method suggested by Jura. Descale the machine every three months using Manual descaling method.. Services Unlimited Inc Parts Guru Since 1988

Jura impressa s9 is displaying error 1

The Owner Manual for the Jura Impressa S9 One Touch identifies Error 2 as being too cold and disabled for safety, but simply instructs to "Turn the IMPRESSA off at the power switch. Contact Customer Support in your country." for all other errors.

Jura Capresso E8 keeps getting error code 8 over and over. I will clean, remove grounds etc, it will make a few espressos, then back to the error code. I can hear it struggling.

One of the problems that I see with these units is the Grinder setting. Sometimes the grinder is set too fine for Dark and Oily beans. This setting will ( can) clog up the brew screen after less than 10 cups are brewed. Also, running the cleaning tablets through to create a clean starting point may help you. Try turning the grinder to a slightly coarser setting and try that.

Error 6 for jura impressa z 5 ? How can I fix it? Do you have a service hotline number for it at all? Many thanks.

Error 6 means that the automatic ceramic valve having a problem reaching the right position. This is usually related to the main electronic board and there is a chance that this needs to be changed. There could be a possibility that the multivalve is broken, but if you can hear it turning when you start up the machine, it`s probably ok. My dispay on my jura E8 says error 5.

Simple fix - got the machine serviced, needed a new thermoblock apparently, could also have been one of the couple of sensors they replaced. Total cost including box, bits and carriage - £180 plus change.
Expensive but now I have it back, it all seems worth it!
