What type and size memory card are you trying to use? The Z1 works with MMC and SD cards, 2GB or smaller. It will not work with higher capacity SDHC cards, even though they fit into the slot.

I have the same issue and am trying to fix it myself. The suggested solution seems to be reformatting, but making sure that you use FAT format and not FAT32 which is selected by default. I will try this myself later Aodh.

SOURCE: Unable to use card

Firstly, what size memory hard do you have? Is it an SDHC? Secondly, have you checked that the memory card isn't locked (there is a switch on the side of it). Has it worked with other memory cards?

SOURCE: I bought 4GB SD card

Your camera came out in 2003, before SDHC cards were invented. Chances are, the 4G card you're trying to use is not an SD but an SDHC card and won't work in your camera.

I have a Konica minolta with 512 MB memory. How much more memory of SDhc/SD card can it use as it is unable to use 4GB SDHC card. Thanks.

The Z1 uses SD cards, which top out at 2GB. SDHC cards do not work with this camera, as you've already found out.

Unable to format the memory card what to do help me please.

Possible there are corrupt files or the card is infected with virus that prevents it to be detected in your PC. Also if the PC is having virus in the OS then it can show such an error.
You must try to see if the card is detected on another PC to confirm or check with another card on your PC.Only if detected can the card be formatted.
copy and then delete off all files before formatting

I have a problem with my minage z1, every card i put in it says unable to use card the same cards does works in other camera's pc etc

Hi. I think your camera is possibly a Minolta Dimage Z1, and if so two possible reasons for this problem come to mind.

1.) I think the Z1 was available around 2003, which in terms of cameras is quite a long time ago! In those days the cards had a relatively small capacity, commonly just Megabytes, and so the cameras were not designed to take the current crop of cards with much larger capacities, which are usually specified in Gigabytes. There are also newer types of SD card, such as SDHC, which sometimes cannot be handled by older cameras.

A review said about cards "The DiMAGE Z1 stores its images on SD memory cards, and a 16MB card accompanies the camera. (The camera also works with the slightly less expensive MMC cards.) I highly recommend picking up a larger capacity card right away, so you don't miss any important shots. (A 64 MB card represents a good tradeoff between capacity and cost.) Connection to a host computer for image download is via USB."

Therefore I guess you may have tried cards which are not suitable just because they are too big but the camera may be able to work again if you can find a small capacity SD card or Multimedia card.

2.) Another possibility is that the 'format' of the cards you have tried was not suitable. To test this you could try formatting them on a computer by right clicking the card's icon in the 'My Computer' window, to bring up the format options. If the camera can then see them you should reformat them by using the camera's menus.

I hope this helps.

What size sd card can i use in a dimage z1

You may use any size SD card. Bear in mind that SD cards max out at 2GB. Larger cards are actually SDHC cards and won't work in the Z1.

Unable to use card

The memory card needs to be formatted by the camera. The card can be formatted in section 1 of the playback menu. Formatting will erase all data from the card. You can download the manual on the following link: http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support/manuals/digital_cameras/dimage-z/dimage_z1/D_Z1_E.pdf
