I have a DELL 7700 with xp ,every time I reboot it says error in sonic cd rom and it wants me to re-install I

I can't find my sonic installation software, how do I fix it?

Which antivirus previously installed? If any antivirus present then remove it in safe mode.
And better to install Norton in Safe mode
Go to Safe Mode with Networking by Tapping F8 key during Bootup, a black screen with option, select the option and then login as Admin account..

If it fails, then try using the Security Configuration Tool to make sure you have privileges to Ghost. You'll find the Tool in your programs menu under Programs|Norton Ghost|Security Configuration Tool.
After then, install Norton.. Let me know the status for further assistance.

During the diagnostic process (especially if you're using the 32bit diagnostic) it is ok to receive the error Code 0F00:136C.
This test detects all the external peripherals. An optical drive which doesn't contain a disc can return this error. Disabling certain applications during start up can help you to eliminate the problem. If possible, run the custom test under diagnostic which will provide a summary of the issues of your computer.

But, as Smithbrother suggested, a System restore is always a good option, unless your hard drive's MBR has failed.

SOURCE: Dell Dimension 5150 cd-rom stopped working

Open your tower and reseat all the cables that are running to the CD ROM (generally a flat white cable). Also reseat the other end of the cable to the motherboard too.
Ensure that CD Drive is enabled in BIOS (Press F2 as the system boots up to enter into BIOS) Please get back if you need any further help.

You will have to chnage the Boot Priority

Go to BOIS setup coniguration option by hiting F2 , F12 or Del key when staring the system

Change the priority to CD ROM as first priority and insert the Windows Disk and reboot the system to Run the Win XP setup

I purchased a Dell Computer back in 2004 which came with Sonic Digital Media Plus v7. My PC has Windows XP Operating System. A few days ago I decided to install Version 6.0 of Roxios Easy CD/DVD Burning...


Try uninstalling Roxio and the Sonic drives and run Fixit. Then reboot and install Roxio first then the Sonic driver.
If this doesn't work uninstall again as previously, install Roxio and check the CD/DVD if necessary run Fixit then install Sonic driver.

The driver is not found


Have you recently run any Windows updates?

I would try uninstalling and re-installing the drivers for the cd rom and/or Sonic first. If that doesn't resolve the issue, you could attempt a system restore to a date when the program was working.

I have experienced this problem as well, it is either the CD is scratch or the CD-rom lens needs cleaning, however it can read the content of the CD, I would susgest you try a another CD-rom , borrow it from a friend. It works for me.

is it vista or xp? if its xp u need to restore to prior day of you instlaling soem cheesy cdburn app. cd burning apps .. some install a specfial driver/filter and messes with it. sonic isone of them from dell. call dell if u have to 1-800-822-8965
