Question about Canon PowerShot S1 IS Digital Camera

4 Answers

Black screen Hi, I have a Powershot S1iS (CANNON), and it worked just fine for about 2 years now. Last week - suddenly the screen went black, and I can not see anything. When I switch to see the pictures I've taken before, I am able to do that, and I do see them. When I try to take a picture - I'm able to, but the picture is black. Can it be a memory card problem (since it's a new one, and I didn't swap it, to verify that). Thanks - Shlomi

Re: Black screen

Someone else posted that Canon fixed it for free.

Here's a link to the Canon service site that explains their take on the problem. Yes they will fix it if it is indeed a CCD issue.

I have a similiar problem.
My symptoms are:
- flip out LCD will not display image while taking a picture
- flip out LCD will dispaly images from memory
- small eyepiece will display image, so camera is still functional in that it can take a picture.

My Canon PowerShot SD880 IS has a black display screen. I cannot take pics now with the black screen, but the display DOES work for pics taken before the screen went black. Please help!

I don't have a solution, but I have the same problem. I found one posting elsewhere that said that this was a "common" problem. That person's camera was under warranty. Mine isn't, but it's less than 2 years old.

Cannon SD 750 - when i try to take a picture a black screen appe

Think that you accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the LCD display on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place. To turn the screen back on, just press the DISP button one more time.

Try setting your camera to mass storage instead ptp.
Reinstall the software of canon. Also see if the camera is in transfer mode rather in shooting mode.
Check if your card is accidently locked somehow.
Always try to load original driver cd and software that came with the camera.

There are quite a few of us with symilar problem, but the screen is not completely black: it has some purple or pinkish color when facing light. Old pics and menu can still be viewed. I noticed 4 symilar threads on Canon A95 within the last 5 mins without any search, just looking at the top questions.

Black screen

Hi, I had the same problem, there is a little button at the bottom that says DISP, click on that and the black screen disappears. It worked with me.
