you need to install the drivers which can be downloaded direct from Lenovo here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?subcategoryind=0&familyind=338517&brandind=10&doccategoryind=0&modelind=0&doctypeind=9&validate=true&partnumberind=0&sitestyle=lenovo&template=%2Fproductpage%2Flandingpages%2FproductPageLandingPage.vm&operatingsystemind=343518&machineind=338521
Note: I selected Vista as the operating system. If different you will need to select the operating system you are using.

If the pre-installed operating system is not windows xp and you just upgraded/downgraded to XP, you have to download the drivers for your audio device. You can download the drivers at: http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/driversdownloads/drivers.html
once you're at the website, type the serial number of your computer and hit search. scroll down to see the audio categories and select the driver for you audio device that is compatible with windows xp
